(With many thanks again to Jdub for title inspiration!!)

OK, because we are all so good at chatting housework, we need a second January thread ... .

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of Wine along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

Carry on everybody!

Crikeyblimey · 26/01/2013 20:57

Evening everyone.

Today has yet again been minimal on the chores fr

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/01/2013 20:59

Castle - I was on a long running couch to 5 k thread for a year or so, we spent more time talking about nail varnish than running some weeks, there was a solitary male poster who must have thought we were bonkers.

I am babysitting in a beautiful, spotless house, admittedly a lot bigger than ours so much more storage but still making me feel inadequate!

Crikeyblimey · 26/01/2013 21:00

Evening everyone.

Today has yet again been minimal on the chores frOnt.

Spent the morning (well till 2pm) out with my sis at a Bygones auction where we were selling some stuff from my late mum's shed (before completion of her house next weekend).

Managed 1 x load of washing, livestock stuff, feeding people amd washing up.

Hey ho. There's always tomorrow.

superfluouscurves · 26/01/2013 21:04

Shock at Goth showing her pom-poms before the watershed ... Grin Wink

Hope day got better Bitchy

That's a very good point Castlelough (and Whoknows/Engels) am always keeping smellies for best and by the time I get to use them, they are too old! Why wait? Smile

On the basis of this link think Flylady would approve of a bit of "fabbing"!!

That's a good list you've got through there Lilleth (and Goth!)

I am proud to announce that I dusted the entire Playmobil house today Grin

I hope to do some proper Flying tomorrow but a bit more relaxed than usual today because it is a journée pedagogique on Monday - no school!!! Yippeee!

Only had a few hours sleep last night, so going to post steps and crash.
Back in the morning. Hope everyone is enjoying a good Saturday night!

*

Baby-step 27 for Sun 27th Jan is a good one! Add "what's for dinner tonight?" to your daily routine.

No zones or missions because it is the weekend, but if you want to get ahead, we will be starting in Zone 5: Living room/den/TV room next week.

Sunday is renew your spirit day

Tomorrow's flight plan is here

Keep warm everyone and keep going!!

Crawls out of naughty corner from renewing my spirit early Wine to say hello to Beginner and Crikey, wave to everyone, and congratulate Bitchy on ?tidy is the new normal,? (must try that!) and following really serious meltdowns from all with ASD in my life, mention that it?s a hell of a full moon out there and there?s frozen wet stuff everywhere and I doubt it?s all a coincidence.

Re home ed and flylady, Ds reckons his statistics exam hasn't gone well and I don?t know if I can cope with re doing it. Having read the flying with homeschoolers, I think our plan should be d/s does the flying, and I can take his exams. Sorted! Grin

Jamillalliamilli · 26/01/2013 22:40

BTWfor any interested; Part 1 of 6, Howard Goodall's Story of music, absolutely brilliant! (On Iplayer 'till feb 23rd)

BlueEyeshadow · 26/01/2013 22:58

"Tidy is the new normal" is what I'm striving for too. Thanks, Bitchy. Also like "don't put it down, put it away", whoever it was who said that one.

Today has featured lots of temper tantrums here too, also sledging before the snow disappears altogether, sudden panicked cleaning because of the realisation that MIL and Step-FIL are going to be in our house as well as a restaurant tomorrow, and DH and I having a very rare evening out at the theatre! :)

House is looking much better, although I find it hard because MIL and SFIL see surface clutter (of which there is lots) but miss deep-cleanliness, which isn't normally too bad.

Big waves to everyone. Have lovely Sundays!

Castlelough · 26/01/2013 23:06

My goodness SC that link has HUNDREDS if not thousands of pampering ideas!!!!

Castlelough · 26/01/2013 23:13

Did not manage my entire list today...

Ta-da:

-4 new tyres on the car
-stocked up on shavings for dhorse and looked after him!
-homemade soup and baked bread
-dinner
-washed up after all the above
-MFP (and lost .75 lb this week, was hoping for more but at least it's a loss!)
-called to see dMil

Will tackle laundry, ironing, and boudoir tomorrow along with school prep, and some phone calls.
Am off to run myself that bath. DH is at work and I will be smelling like roses when he gets in Smile.

Castlelough · 26/01/2013 23:17

Blue enjoy the theatre and try not to worry about surface clutter. Your house is a home for you and your young boys. You are doing your best; I'm sure they will only have eyes for their little grandsons Grin x

ToffeeWhirl · 27/01/2013 00:01

Just - I like your idea about getting your DS to do the Flying whilst you take his exam Grin. Cross fingers that he's done better than he thinks. Has he had any tutoring or is it all down to you and him? .

SC - well done on dusting the entire Playmobil house today! Hope you can catch up on sleep tonight.

Blue - I know what you mean about people only seeing surface clutter. Can you go round with a big box and just scoop everything into it before they come? That's what I do.

Glad to see you have been pampering yourself tonight, Castle !

. Hope DH appreciates it.

Blue - hope you enjoy the theatre tonight. I was recently given a voucher to spend on a visit to the theatre - am quite excited about it, as it is such a novelty these days.

Bedtime routine ran late tonight and DH didn't help because he's not feeling well, but I used the trusty timer and managed to get both boys into bed early so we could watch 'Borgen'. Tomorrow, I will stick to the times on my list and, hopefully, DH will be able to help.

Off to browse a little before bed now. Night all.

BitchyDragons · 27/01/2013 00:07

Tbh the house isn't really that tidy but i thought i'd drop the seed of change seeing as he felt the fact that you can see an improvement was a good reason for throwing a strop. But if i am being completely truthful i think that the meltdown was pre-emptive stress wrt to an activity we were doing tonight. Which he survived better then he has done before. Late night for all, including ds, tonight.

Need to get some flying done tomo. but it won't be much as going out from around 3pm.

Jamillalliamilli · 27/01/2013 00:35

Toffee It's been the blind leading and cheering on the partially sighted. I'm saving up for a subscription to MEI!
Tbh, it's not that he doesn't understand statistics, it's that he dislikes them and sees them as an aboration that lets down the beauty of 'genuine' maths. Me I just settle for the idea of being able to understand any of it, even short term.

ToffeeWhirl · 27/01/2013 01:05

Just - home ed does force us out of our comfort zone, doesn't it? I am learning more Maths now than I ever did at school! I hope your DS has done better than he expects.

Bitchy - wishing you a good night's sleep and a meltdown-free day tomorrow.

Am not doing so well at the 'bed at decent hour' step...

BitchyDragons · 27/01/2013 08:40

Just Grin I sniggered at your ds' view on stats. That is exactly the sort of thing that i expect my ds to come out with at some point when he is older. Hmm

I am up at a nice early time this morning. Don't want to be but am. Have lost my phone with my alarm clock on it and was hoping to discover it when the alarm went off on it this morning. but nope. not happened. So i get to play hunt the phone in a bit.

Plan for today:
get up
drink lots of coffee
check timings and location for comp stuff
do some stuff (as yet to be determined)
deal with hideously over tired ds - pj and tv day i think
get ready and head to comp stuff
get home to one asleep ds and put on a quick wash.
shove stuff in tumble dryer and head to bed.

Which seems like a totally doable list of stuff until you try to figure out what the stuff bit that needs doing is. Hmm

SilveryMoon · 27/01/2013 09:08

Morning all

List dump:
Up make beds done
Get breakfast done

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/01/2013 09:33

Just - me too, I come across stats in my work and find the fact that they can be used to make data say anything you want it to somewhat frustrating. Whereas normal maths, you know what you're getting.

LillethTheCat · 27/01/2013 10:13

I haven't done today's list yet.

tada

  • wipe down windows (didn't need it now it is so much warmer)
  • change bedding and hide mucky bedding as the wask basket is full
  • turn on washing machine
  • wash up
  • ring parents

to do

  • wipe bathroom
  • wash up 2X
  • shine sink
  • sort out clothes for Mon
  • second load of laundry
  • dry laundry
  • put laundry away
  • fill washing machine up for Sun
  • read advice list (full of good lift my spirits quotes as per flylady get rid of negative thoughts in babystep day 5)
  • 15 min front room
  • 5 min cupboard room rescue
  • coursework
  • help DD1 with homework - DS has no homework as teacher was too busy Hmm

Oooh so much to do today, not sure if most of it will get done. Then again there are a lot of short things that will take no time so maybe it will.

Talking of looks, I sometimes wish I was a bit more motivated with my appearance, but I just CBA. I did see that thread about someone's new year resolution was to take care of their appearance, but Im doing so much ATM Im not adding more things onto it just yet. I might in 2014 though. Make a little plan and do it in babystep format. Have a beauty habit of the month and get it done. ATM all I care about is that Im clean and dont smell. I dont ever wear make up thats mainly because I just feel a bit overdressed with it on. I do go running a bit, its been a bit too wet/snowy recently but plan to do more when the weather gets nicer. My goal is lose weight over summer and maintain it over winter (or at least not put too much back on)

Thanks for the fabbing link SC will have a look in a min. Well done on cleaning the house even though it was a playmobile one Grin

Bitchy hope it doesn't take too long for your DS to get used to the idea of the new normal. It must be frustrating to go through a change let alone one that has an effect on everyday living. Even though it is a good thing, it must be difficult to see that different can be good.

Hope you had a good time at the theatre Blue and you manage to clear all the surface clutter. Agree with the big box idea.

BBL

BitchyDragons · 27/01/2013 11:01

lilleth "It must be frustrating to go through a change let alone one that has an effect on everyday living. Even though it is a good thing, it must be difficult to see that different can be good." This pretty much sums up ds.

The people have pissed me off today. So i am walking around Angry.
I am going to have a sign made up with "tidy is the new normal" and stick it up.

Sorry to hear you're having a hard time today Bitchy just think in a few weeks/months time then tidy really will be the normal and it wont be the new normal, it will just be normal. You have to go through it to get past it. Hope it doesn't take too long for you.

I always get to Sunday evening and think I've forgotten something.

Next week's the living room isn't it? I have people coming round next Sunday for ds2's birthday. 5 children I don't know (plus 5 I do know) so need the place to be looking better than it does now. Next week will be scrubbing sofas, washing cushion covers, wiping skirting boards and table legs I think. Haven't done any of that for a while Blush.

Hope everyone else has had a good day and is ready for the week ahead
