Argh....beige carpet + entire litre of 'giant bubble mix'

Any ideas? Been trying to blot it up with cold water but its going to take years before it stops bubbling!

Is my only option going over it with a carpet cleaner? What would happen if I got my steam cleaner on it, will I be able to hold an Ibiza style foam party here?

don't go near it with a steam cleaner -you think the bubbles are bad now!!!

cold water is the only way to go really

Oh god it's going to take me so long to mop it up. The bubbles are so dense.! I'm reading horror stories on the Internet saying the patch will turn black because it will attract dirt sobs. I've chucked a towel over it for now. I'll deal with it at the weekend. Or maybe never.

Put a towel down and keep on walking on it to absorb the moisture, change th towel as many times as you need to until you have got as much up as you can .

Fabric conditioner helps to remove the foam from soap powder, maybe some in a water solution sprayed on, once you have the majority soaked up?

I reckon if you hire a shampooer, and put some fabsoft or dissolved soap in the tank it will help kill the bubbles. You may have to run it for short periods while the bubbles build up. i think you will have a very clean patch on the carpet.

A spoon of cooking oil on the surface is also said to prevent bubbles, but I imagine the liquid is like a detergent so will clean up the oil.

Do you know anyone with a vax or other cleaner that will suck up wet as well as dry stuff. Then at least you could vacuum up the surplus! Then mop with water and fabsoft mix (as described by PigletJohn) and then vacuum up again. Repeat for the next 100 years.

(Assuming it was a dc who spilt the bubble mix) you could sell your dc into slavery and use the money to buy a new carpet!

OP - if you're still reading. We had this - it left a big yellow stain that looked just like someone had weed on the carpet, but we repeated cleaning it has faded and is unnoticeable now.

Didn't someone recommend on a "mad dishwasher" thread to put oil / fat into the bubbles to help stop them. Now just tryng to think what sort of oil / fat you'd like to have to remove from your carpet......

How shallow you all seem.

My elder son died six weeks ago.

So stain removal etc seems somewhat insignificant.

Gosh I completely agree as a poster who has also lost a child. Really not fair to say that. I still look for tips, particularly after the sudocreme incident.

Really sorry for your loss though.

Don't put fat/oil on it as that will just stain the carpet. That's fine in a dishwasher which is all metal and not porous!

I think diluting and sucking up is the way to go. If you can borrow a vax or other wet vac then that would be the best thing, if not then towels. Lots and lots of old towels. Keep putting them on it and walking/jumping on them to soak up as much as poss. If it's getting dry but still looks stained, add more plain water and continue soaking up.

I was only thinking of putting oil or fabsoft in the container of the carpet cleaner where the dirty water goes, to muffle the foam. Not on the carpet.

Wow I headlined the mailout!

Thank you everyone so much for all your tips. Thought I'd update...I spent a week in denial then hired a Rug Doctor this weekend paying extra for the anti foam stuff. Every time I went over the bubbled patch on the carpet there was a WOOOOOF sound and the extraction bucket bit immediately filled up with huge dense foam. After approximately 4 million passes over the patch it started to ease off a bit. Its not completely clear but there's no visible stain (at the moment) so I'm going to leave or for now and give it another scrub with very dilute fabric conditioner every time I think about it.

Megfox, condolences on the loss of your son. It must be a very hard time for you.
