Induction hob - recommendations (or avoids!)

I am hunting for one of these for our new kitchen. Does anyone have any recommendations of particular brands that are good (or ones that are bad???

The issue seems to be ones that turn themselves off everytime something boils over so I want to avoid the makes that do that.

I have one, I absolutely love it. It is fantastic and I cannot understand why everyone doesn't have one Grin!! It's almost 10 years old, De Dietrich, 4 rings, the controls are 1 to 15 and a boost, excellent controlability. And it looks like new. It turns itself off only with a very big boil-over. I'm sure there are newer models available, this one is excellent. Totally love it.

Be careful with some Bosch and Siemens models as the big rings do not cope with pans which have a smaller diameter than the ring.

My Mum, who lives on her own, got a Bosch induction hob: it was pretty useless to her as she often cooks with 2 or 3 small pans at the same time and the big rings did not recognise them, so she was forced to use bigger diameter pans than she needed.

We had an old Belling one before I smashed the top it was very old but the newer ones seem the same and it was very good

I've had my Bosch for 4 years and I love it! It still looks like new and I've not had any problems with it.

I've never had a problem with the ring sizes, but this morning I've done some testing and measuring that you may find useful:
The largest ring is 28cm and will (just) pick up a 16cm pan.
I have two 18cm rings that will pick up 12cm pans but not 10cms.
The smallest 15cm ring will take the 10cm pan, I don't have anything smaller so can't work out it's limit.

Mine only switches off with a big boil over, where there's water all over the hob and I've completely forgotten about it and gone to change a nappy or something. A useful feature I think!

Oh and I should mention that I boil stuff over all the time! It heats the water so quickly that even after 4 years it still takes me by surprise and I think I've only ever made pasta twice without it boiling over.

Thanks all, its very confusing because for every review I find saying a brand is dreadful there is another saying it is great!

Seems like maybe you need a variety of sizes of pans. Good to know about the Bosch not being one that throws a tantrum!

Mid range Belling here. Bigboil overs cause switch off but otherwiseno issues at all, although it took a while to get used to the settings needed to maintain a simmer/boil etc.

Don't rush out and buy expensive, heavy pans like I did. My faves are IKEA 365 range.

gobbin · 06/01/2013 22:10

Oh, and I'd never go back to gas again. One wipe over and it's clean - what's not to like!

andadietcoke · 06/01/2013 22:13

We have the large Ikea one. I love it. We have a stove top kettle that takes less time to boil than the electric one did. Yy for boiling stuff dry though.

slhilly · 06/01/2013 22:17

Has anyone got one of the zoneless types? They seem like a great idea

dikkertjedap · 06/01/2013 22:43

I have had both Siemens and Candy, both were excellent.

janmoomoo · 11/01/2013 17:51

Thanks all. Ikea 365 pans sound good although I think mine will work (tested with magnet, disappointing as I want new ones!).

Was looking at the Neff one today which seems popular. Will check out Bosch.
