Should I get a searing one which has 3.5l capacity. Or a larger regular one please? Can't link as on iPhone and baby yelling!

I just use a large sized one from Tesco (was about £15 I think) and its excellent. I wouldn't personally go for a small capacity one - I make huge portions and freeze the leftovers either to use as homemade ready meals or for DH to take to work for lunches.

I have a large crockpot. (think it's 6.5l). Cost about £30. You can use them to do an amazing variety of things such as roasts and puddings so I wanted to be sure I could fit a big joint in. Last week did a lovely casserole with a shoulder of lamb and red wine. The meat fell of the bone and was lovely.

I'm going to have to have a look at them I think. I've not been gettin out much since baby was born but I need to now. I love the idea of the sauté ones. But they seem a max of 4.5l

the oval ones mean you can get a bigger piece of meat, or a whole chicken, say, than a round one of the same capacity.

you mention a searing one, does this mean it will brown stuff in the same pot before you go to slow-cooking? that sounds handy, I've always browned in a separate pan on the hob, which is OK as you can brown things separately and lob into the pot.

the oval Tesco one for about £12 is fine - don't go too small.

PigletJ - yes it browns. There are a few of them out there now. I'm thinking it will make life even easier if I have toddler to appease and newborn in the sling (I don't totally feel happy stooping over the job when baby is in the sling but sometimes it is necessary) and less cleaning up too. Just not sure which one has the largest capacity.

I wasn't sure if I would use one so bought the cheapy one from Tesco and although it doesn't have any fancy functions as posters above said it's absolutely fine. It is heavy but I haven't had any problems with cleaning the bowl
