washing machine or washer-dryer

Ok, I know this has been done before and the answer is washing machine, but its a bit more complicated so please humour me...
I currently have a 12 yr old washing machine that lives in the kitchen. It is now getting really loud on the spin cycle and I think its not got long left. I also have a 5 yr old tumble dryer (condenser) which is in the garage. This is not ideal and in fact it expressly says it should not be kept there but there is nowhere for it to go in the house other than the living room!! When we a really cold winter 2 years ago a 1 1/2 hour cycle would sometimes take 10 hours as there was just no heat in the surrounding air for it to use to dry the clothes. So I'm not sure how much longer it will survive either.

I've been looking at AEG machines and can get a washing machine for about £700 which takes 8kg of washing and has 1600 rpm. Or a washer dryer for about £900 which takes 9kg washing but 7kg of drying. They are both A rated, but the washer-dryer uses about twice the energy of a washer and dryer separately, although I'm not sure how efficient our drier really is in the garage.

So - is it better to get a washing machine now and having to get a dryer as well in a year or two? Or spend the extra money but accept that it probably won't last as long?

I will never ever buy a washer dryer again , It was such a bad idea. The clothes don't dry properly and it takes ages to dry anything . My stupid machine has broken numerous times. I have no central heating so couldn't use radiators to dry everything and the weather hasn't been great for outside drying so in the end I bought a small dryer from tescos for 90 quid and its great! Wish I done that in the first place .

I would get a washing machine now and a new dryer when you can. I keep my tumble dryer in the garage as I don't have enough kitchen space either. It isn't a condensing one so cold weather doesn't affect it at all.

I must admit i've considered washer dryers but our washing machine still going strong so no excuse! look here the top buy is much cheaper than the ones you were looking at. I like the cost to run and all the details they give for each appliance.

Never heard of anyone that has been happy with a washer dryer.
