How do they plumb in? Are they really useful or too small to be any use?

I am in a rented house, so can't take rearrange kitchen to make room for a dishwasher, but I'm so bloody sick of washing up and seem to constantly have a pile of dirty stuff next to my sink.

they plumb in the same as a big dishwasher, or a washing machine. It is possible but undesirable to run the pipes to the sink over the worktop.

They will easily wash the plates and cutlery from a family meal, and a day's mugs, but will not take many pans at the same time. A roasting tray or grill pan will practically fill it but you can put in utensils at the same time.

In the situation you describe, I'd recommend shoving everything into it as you go, then running it when full.

The Bosch one is the best by far. Sadly it is not much cheaper than a full-size one.

They are in great demand second-hand and fetch a high price.

p.s.

I just checked the "Which" reviews. I thought the Bosch ones were all the same except for colour, but the Bosch SKS60E02GB appears to be a bit better (and a bit more expensive) than the SKS50E... models. They are all Best Buys.

DP says they are noisier than the full-sized ones, having recently moved the kitchen around, I think it might be because they are not surrounded by units, worktop and wall to keep the noise in - the big one was noisy when standing in the room but is normally fairly quiet. You may want to close the kitchen door on it.

The Indesit score is nowhere near as good and the Zanussi is a lot worse.

Thank-you
Trying to imagine how I could plumb it in in my current kitchen...

My friend had one and just put it in the cupboard under the sink or the one next to it. Must have been fairly easy to do as her not v DIY friendly hubby did it.

We had one when we were in a tiny flat. It was wonderful, although it was in almost constant use. We were renting so we installed it without cutting anything, although I can't remember how. We started off with it on the worktop, then put it inside a cupboard and took the cupboard door off.

wonderstuff

start by looking under your sink to see what pipes and valves you have.

you want a washing-machine tap like this to supply the water

and some kind of waste connection like this or this for the waste hose

Or any local plumber (recommended) will know how to connect it in his sleep. As you are in a rental tell the owners you want to do it and ask who is their regular plumber.

MousyMouse · 14/12/2012 13:53

we had one in our previous flat. as we were renting we couldn't make a hole into the worktop to plumb it in with the washing mashine but bought an adapter thingy to screw it on to the tap. disadvantage: you can't use the tap when d/w is running but we put it on at night, so no probs. family of 4 and it took a day's worth of plate/cups/cuttlery easy but not pots/pans or oven trays.
it's a zanussi.
if you can you can easily attach it to the w/m plumbing, you can get a divider for the water pipe.

wonderstuff · 14/12/2012 14:04

Thanks all - can easily get it under the sink if we gut he cupboard that is there at the moment - going to contact landlord and hope he is OK with this. Otherwise will investigate tap adapters..

I am very anxious about rubber tap connectors. Occasionally they come off, especially at night when the mains pressure is higher.

What is the cost for plumbing in a tabletop dishwasher ?

Christmasandallthetrimmings · 10/01/2025 21:55

Placemarking for the plumbing instructions 😂

PigletJohn · 11/01/2025 01:54

If they haven't been published in the last 12 years you may have a long wait.
