Just curious what do you class as spring cleaning, do you do the windows and pull the cooker out? Do you pull the beds and wardrobes out to, what order do you do it in?

No No No No No NO!!!!

it is TOO EARLY to talk about spring cleaning. please dont make me think about skirting boards and the top of the kitchen cupboards!

InNeedOfBrandy · 26/11/2012 09:59

It has to be done before the decorations go up!

sod the decorations. i'm thinking of renting a storage unit and decorating it. then just taking the dcs once a day to look at it. Grin

InNeedOfBrandy · 26/11/2012 10:12

Maybe you need a shed? You could go to the grotto everyday then Wink

So how do you spring clean? Tell me what you do how you do it please.

hmm, it's been a while. i'll see what i can remember.

my wardrobes are built in and right up to the ceiling so wont get pulled out. dcs wardrobes are light canvas things and get hoovered under every week anyway, same with all the beds. sofa/chairs get hoovered under twice a week aswell.

ok so spring cleaning would be taking all the blinds and curtains down and washing. all the duvets (although i do them regularly thoughout the year anyway). hoovering round all the windows, frames, walls and skirting boards (my wardrobe doors too) then mopping the walls (if painted-not papered) and skirting boards. cooker, fridge, freezer, washing machine and dryer all come out and get a good clean aswell and the floor under them/walls around them. all kitchen cupboards cleaned in and out and on top (put newspaper on top after cleaning to catch the new grease (yuck). i usually go through the wardrobes after xmas and get rid of anything too small or scruffy looking.

Do it when the decorations come down... That's what I do, clean house for the start of the year.

Start from the top of the house and work your way down, and take the opportunity to declutter while you're at it.

Spring cleaning to me involves hoovering out wardrobes, moving furniture to clean, washing curtains, cleaning windows. If it doesn't move it gets cleaned. I actually rather enjoy it Blush.

IAmSoFuckingRock · 26/11/2012 10:28

and yes i do need a shed!

valiumredhead · 26/11/2012 17:14

I do a spring clean at the end of the summer when we have finished going in and out of the garden so much and bringing in dirt.

I pull everything out and hoover in all the nooks and crannies - everything I usually miss out Wink

InNeedOfBrandy · 26/11/2012 17:16

But how do you do your spring clean? Do you do a room at a time, or mop everywhere, dust everywhere, what jobs do you do!

OP posts:
AppleOgies · 26/11/2012 17:19

One room at a time starting from the top working your way down, but leaving bathroom and kitchen until last.

InNeedOfBrandy · 26/11/2012 17:23

Ok I do one room at a time but do the floors all at once.

My favourite job is doing my cupboards.

OP posts:
IAmSoFuckingRock · 26/11/2012 17:28

yes one room at a time top to bottom of room, top to bottom of house. my floors are constantly being cleaned anyway so it doesn't matter if i dont do it all at once as they will all be done that week anyway.

LynetteScavo · 26/11/2012 17:32

I clean before I put up decorations. I never pull out wardrobes or bookshelves. Unless I decorate.

I know there are nasty things going on behind the washing machine, but chose not to think about it.

Once a year I do a proper clean (summer holidays) and it takes a week. I lot of that is sorting, and I end up with seven car loads for the charity shop.

MrsjREwing · 26/11/2012 17:33

marking my place.

AlfalfaMum · 26/11/2012 17:33

I dont spring clean my house ever until spring.
I think you'd better drink your brandy now, op, and forget this silly notion until the appropriate season Wine

InNeedOfBrandy · 26/11/2012 17:49

I wish it was a silly notion but I need to do it. I normally keep on top of my housework but with all thios shitty weather we've been in more and I've been less inclined to get orf my arse, it's not been messy just getting a bit grubby.

Did my bedroom, pulled all furniture out did the walls, skirting, floors, doors, frames, switches, windows tomorrow will wash nets and curtains and do another room.

I was hoping someone would have a really good tip for it?

Sorry, I am a bit flippant about the whole housework thing because we've had building work over-running for the past few months and I dont even have a bloody kitchen

Um, have you seen the Flylady website? I find her quite good for inspiration when I decide I want a clean house.

Badvocsanta · 26/11/2012 18:05

Ah, have just started my Xmas cleaning!
Dusted all skirting boards, washed cushion covers, blankets/snuggles.
Washed dining chair seat pads.
Cleaned all windows inside, wiped down window frames.
Washed wall tiles in kitchen, cleaned out and tidied kitchen cupboards.
Need to do fridge freezer.
Did oven last week but will do again before Xmas.
Need to clean conservatory when the people come to sort the bloody leak out!
Need to wash down the wall tiles in the bathroom and utility room.
Also dh is going to clean the windows outside.
Think that's it!

InNeedOfBrandy · 26/11/2012 18:06

Oh poor you, I moved into my nans when I had my l=kitchen done I couldn't imagine putting up with it for long!

Flylady is to much for me, and to american and I ended up cleaning things that were already clean and forgetting to do my shop on a friday instead of a tuesday,

A room at a time...living room last then decorations go up. Coincidently Im on holiday this week and 'spring' clean is whats on my agenda. Today was DS room...all furnishings (duvet, duvet cover, other bedding, curtains and cushions) washed. All furniture out - bed, wardrobe, drawers, chair - window washed inside and out, door and skirting washed, carpet and rug Vax'd. Cleared wardrobe and drawers while carpet dried, anything too small into charity bag. Everything moved back in and furnishings put back in their place...phew lol tomorrow my and DP room-pretty much same routine as above.
