Washing Machine: Repair or Replace?

Hi,

I'd like some advice on how I can fix my washing machine as i dont want to replace it if I can help it.

The machine is a Hotpoint and is about 2 and a half years old. About 9 months ago the dial stopped catching so it's stuck on a delicate spin with temperature no higher than 50degrees. Obviously need to get that fixed, but in the meantime despite wiping out the rubber seal (admittedly not all the time bit try to do majority of the time) has started growing black mould. In addition, before the machine got stuck, I dyed sone clothes but there are still flecks of dye coming out despite having run several cycles at 90degrees.

So my questions are...

  • if I get the dial fixed and do some hot washes, will that get rid of the mould?
  • what else can I do to get rid of the flecks of dye still hanging around?

Thanks!

Are you sure it's dye? I only ask as I used dylon years ago and it didnt do this. Could it be fluff or bits of limescale?

I'm using a machine that isnt mine and it had the rankest black mould on the seal, i scrubbed it with bleach and it still bad. But, it doesnt smell after doing two maintanance washes and it doesnt affect the clothes.

I think it is dye - I've dyed loads of clothes in the past but not on his machine and never had any problems in the past.
