Bye bye Dyson....

Been a loyal dyson user for 12 years but after our builders used my once precious dyson to Hoover up plaster, it gave up the ghost completely so borrowed a Henry....what a revelation! It actually picks up crumbs and is 1000 times better than a Dyson.

Has anyone else found this? Feel a sucker (no pun intended) for believing all the Dyson hype.

Total opposite. Had a Henry for years then bought a Dyson Animal. Puts our Henry to shame. I'd never go back!

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 21/11/2012 16:33

I hate Henry, he is a pile of crap. It does suck OK but that is it's only good point. I was quite surprised to see that Which didn't rate it all that highly either as everyone (except me and vix206) seem to be in the 'Henry is Great' camp.

Chocchip88 · 21/11/2012 16:34

Had a Dyson for 10 years but now have a Miele. It has broken 3 times since March. I was advised to get a Henry but did I listen? Sigh!

WhispersOfWickedness · 21/11/2012 16:36

I was hoping this would be a Henry thread Grin I love mine!! I really do not want to look at the crap I have just hoovered up Hmm

PeazlyPops · 21/11/2012 16:41

I'm with Vix, Henry is rubbish compared to dyson!

At least the dyson doesnt flatten the carpet pile like Henry does.

valiumredhead · 21/11/2012 17:46

Henrys are utter shit! Meile is the way to go!

ChablisLover · 21/11/2012 17:48

I love my Henry

I too swapped from a dyson and Henry is sooo much better!

vix206 · 21/11/2012 21:18

Could it just be that our shiny new vacuums are all so much better than the old ones we are replacing, I mean we are obviously replacing them for a reason? IYSWIM?

So new Henry is better than old dyson, or vice versa!!

Haylebop12 · 21/11/2012 21:27

R.I.P dyson.

My thoughts are with you OP

The man in the vacuum cleaner shop (well all household electricals really) said that he'd had a tour of the Dyson factory and the cleaners were using Henrys.

Not sure how true that is but it is an old story as I don't think they do actually make Dysons in Britain any more.

Dysons are great to begin with but get clogged up in next to know time with hair and carpet bits and are an absolute nightmare to clean out. Don't know why we moved away from carpets with carpet bags to empty - seems to me its much more hassle emptying out the Dyson after every hoover and then having to pick out my hairs at least once a fortnight.

toomuchicecream · 22/11/2012 21:18

Why don't you get your Dyson serviced? Following a thread on here in the summer I went on the Dyson website and found out all about it. Dead easy to organise - can't remember the cost but about £75 (ie much cheaper than a new cleaner). Got new motor, beater bar, hose etc etc so it's just like a new machine. Got to be worth a try! I also paid £12 for new filters - as consumables they weren't covered by the service. By the time the nice man had finished the Dyson worked like it did when I first bought it.

NanTheWiser · 22/11/2012 21:57

I have a Sebo, sparkle = bought it almost a year ago, and I'm very pleased with it! Had a Dyson for many years, but now I'm getting a bit old and creaky, found it a bit heavy to lug around, especially getting it upstairs.

As I prefer an upright to a cylinder, I wouldn't consider a Henry or Miele (tho I know Miele now do uprights), and I checked various Sebo models out at John Lewis for manoeuvrability.

Sebos aren't lightweight, but they are almost powerdriven, so glide along very easily, and with a low profile head, will go under furniture that the Dysons can't manage. I also like the fact they have bags (got fed up with emptying Dyson's canister and getting dust everywhere!), and the bags last absolutely ages - they'll take 5 litres of dust.

My Dyson now lives upstairs, and the Sebo downstairs, so no more lugging!

Sebo rate very well in the Which? trials, and have been used in hospitals and commercial premises for a long time, which is good enough for me!

This is the one I got.

happymschicken · 23/11/2012 07:46

I did have the Dyson serviced at great expense and it was fine for s month or two and then wouldn't pick up again.

Another Henry fan here! I got fed up with emptying a bagless cleaner. Henry is sooooooo much better!

The clincher for me was that every single building site I've seen uses a Henry, and although our place can get a bit grubby, it's nothing like industrial mess

slartybartfast · 23/11/2012 07:59

had a dyson for a very long time but it gave up and we have something else but still ahve dyson envy. dont diss the dyson.

slartybartfast · 23/11/2012 08:00

my dh could fix the dyson which was a big plus

blondieminx · 23/11/2012 08:00

sparkle9 I have a Sebo Felix, it's a great hoover esp on pet hair (brought mine on Good Housekeeping magazine's recommendation, it's given us 10 years of reliable service so far!) Smile

poachedeggs · 23/11/2012 08:03

I've had a Miele for over 6 years, and it's bloody wonderful. Serviced once at a local dealer for £40 and never a complaint from it.

Used to have a Dyson and found it heavy, enormous, ugly and massively overrated.

After years of broken hoovers at work, we finally got a Henry in exasperation and the woman who cleans is in love with him. And he works hard.

GetorfsaMotherfuckingMorrisMan · 23/11/2012 08:05

I am glad your Dyson is dead, OP. I hate the fuckers.

I have tried to murder mine for years (thrown it down the stairs, kicked it with great force, hoovered (yes HOOVERED James Dyson) leaves from the garden, but no, mine still goes.

Which actuallu says they are quite robust I suppose. I still hate it though for being a mediocre, great big ugly yellow cumbersome bastard though.

I want a miele.

vix206 · 24/11/2012 08:05

Still love my Dyson :)

AngelDog · 24/11/2012 20:14

Hoovering up plaster will kill a Miele too.

Wish I'd thought to get it serviced - will remember that for next time DH tries to clear up after DIY.

Nanny0gg · 24/11/2012 20:17

Sebo is great.
I don't like bagless vacuums and the Sebo is the easiest one to change ever. Also the easiest to clean.
It hoovers really well too.

Dawndonna · 24/11/2012 22:54

I have three messy children and a long haired dog. I love my miele. Far far better than the dyson it replaced.
