Rasta Mouse

So there i was cooking my Sunday roast in the kitchen. I opened the drawer under the oven which houses my serviettes, pour n'store bags etc and what do i see? A mouse making his nest in my serviettes.

I screamed so much DH thought one of the kids had died.

We have never had a mouse before, but i am terrified of them.

I feel violated.

I have demanded DH take the day off work tomorrow to help me.

DD is calling it Rasta Mouse.

Any tips with dealing with mice? Feel like showering in bleach

You just need a bloody big mallet Shock

ihatethecold · 18/11/2012 19:37

Traps with Nutella on

EspressoMonkey · 18/11/2012 20:07

Oooooo nutella, good tip. Thanks.

And i would no doubt knock myself out with a mallet. I couldn't stand to look at a mouse let alone try to hit one.

DM thinks i am mad for making DH take the day off work tomorrow.

Peanut butter is good bait.

When I found one had nibbled through a packet of biscuits in our cupboard I went mental - refused to go into the kitchen, etc etc. Rang Rentokill - they quoted £350 for 2 visits. Luckily FIL suggested ringing the council... £10 for 2 visits, came round next day, guy very helpful (apologised for the fee - they'd previously been free), put down poison in all the right places.
Nasty smell started a few weeks later though and I found dead mouse under the cupboards - triggering another mental episode from me and mad bleaching of the whole kitchen.
It's horrible, you have my sympathy..

Proper mouse trap, bread with small dollop of jam. Bobs your uncle Smile

(Have used humane traps, many "hilarious" stories but basically mouse 1 : humans 0)

I know from bitter experience that if you have seen one mouse, that you have a whole load of mice.

We set traps and got quite a few at first, but then they got wise to it. We missed one trap during the summer and I heard this buzzing sound under the cooker. I moved the base-board and a whole swarm of flies came out.

Call the council, kill off all the little blighters. Yes, you get a smell when they die off, but that goes away and its a whole load better than flies.

I don't have any tips but just wanted to let you know that the thread title put a smile on my face. I have images of the mice grooving to Bob Marley under the cupboards.Smile
Seriously though, you have my sympathies!

Geeklette · 20/11/2012 20:28

You poor thing, you have my sympathy. We had mice because a neighbour decided they were 'cute' and fed them. The attics were all joined and one thing led to another...

I second getting the professionals in. We tried humane traps (ha! What a joke!) and the plastic kill 'em dead traps and I would say if you are going to do a DIY trap job, get proper metal-and-wood sprung traps. 2am we heard one of the plastic traps fire off in the kitchen, then 'squeeeee' going on for ever. I had to finish the little bugger off and it still gives me nightmares.

Oh, and peanut butter was the most effective for our discerning rodents Wink

love the Rasta mouse....

however he doesn't pay rent, nor is he related to someone who does, nor is he invited, and so he is not welcome. He is also a health hazard and destructive. He's gotta go.

down the DIY shop and consider the various options; you can get expensive traps which swallow the mouse and can just be binned, or the cheap splat-bang option which is a bit nasty to empty. However anyone who has given birth and changed nappies can surely deal with a mouse? :-)

If you like cats get one! A few years ago we had mice in a rental property, adopted two cats and have never had a problem again. Nice furry friends too :)
