Two years old now, and a wedding present - I thought they'd last til we died! They look really grey, especially on the pillowcases and also at the head end of the duvet. It that it or is there hope? Or will I have to dye them and would silver / sky blue work?

Not exciting for a Friday night, but I m cheering myself up by improving our room after dd spends her first night in hers - :(

Sounds like you need to change pillowcases a bit more frequently. My DH is the same so we each have a pair of pillows. I'll swap his over after a day or so but mine stay the same, and then I'll wash them all in another day or so. I only change the rest of the bedding once a week though. I've never found anything to improve the appearance of yellow stained pillowcases and I also think they smell terrible especially when stored...sorry!

what washing powder do you use?

what are they made of, and what temperature do you wash them at?

when did you last give your machine a service wash?

Luckily they don't smell. Always dry outside, wash in Ariel on 50 and regularly do a service wash. Often wash his pillowcase between bed changes in the summer but probably need to do it all the time/ even more frequently!

I've had mine for years - always wash at 60 I think they are mainly from IKEA they are still white. Don't mix sith other colours. Maybe add a capfull of bleach to the next white wash.

The yellowing is often products used, hair gel, moisturiser, bloody dibrobase is terrible.

The sun is your friend.

If they have any polyester content at all they will be harder to keep white. But other than that you must just make sure you NEVER mix whites with anything else, use a decent biological powder and the hottest temperature you can cope with. I wash mine on 60 most of the time and occasionally I blast them with a 90 boil wash. Napisan or some other type of laundry bleach will help as well. Although once they have 'turned' I'm not sure there is much you can do to reverse it.

I have this problem, I bought some posh pillowcases from JL and White Co in the summner and they are already going yellow even though I was them on their own at 60 with bio detergent.
Is a bit upsetting as they look old and skanky even though they are not...
