Keeping baby's room warm

We live in an absolute icebox and while DH and I are toasty warm in bed at night, DD (who is 3 months old) is already waking up at night cold and it's only October. I am dreading the proper winter.

We have got a 2.5 tog baby sleeping bag for her which she is going in for the first time tonight, and I am putting her to bed in a babygro/sleepsuit and long sleeve vest. Any other ideas?

We are also looking at getting a heater for our bedroom / the nursery when she is old enough to move to her own room. Any suggestions on type / safety / alternatives, etc?

as long as you get an oil-filled rad with a thermostat, you don't need a timer. Just set the stat fairly low, and it will only click on if the room temp drops too far.

Don't use timers with fan or most other electric heaters, as they may come on unexpectedly when somebody has dropped a soclk or something on them, which may catch fire. The oil-filled ones do not get hot enough to start a fire, so are especially suitable for childrens rooms.

Thanks all!

She slept better last night in her long sleeved vest, sleepsuit, 2.5 tog Gro bag and single layer of blanket. We've ordered an oil filled radiator as well - advice much appreciated.

Poor pet has a cold now as well so is all snotty!

Are you using cotton cot sheets or flannelette sheets? We changed to flannelette sheets last winter as when putting baby DC4 down (different house to when others were babies and her room is the coolest) you could see her not liking her face hitting the cooler cotton sheets. The flannelette sheets have a warmer feel to them.
