Fabric conditioner or not?

Just wanted to canvas opinion, is fabric conditioner a waste of money or not?

I don't use it any more... haven't noticed any difference except I have a few extra quid each month. But I usually tumble dry towels... they're crusty if I don't.

I don't use it as I always use the dryer and ds can't tolerate anything harsher than Fairy non bio (which is expensive enough!) but pre-ds and pre-dryer (the dryer arrived out of necessity at about a month after ds ) I used to use it as everything was air dried and stiff.

Nope, it only 'clogs' the towels up and I hate the smell of them. Sometimes I add a drop of white wine vinegar instead. I've mostly got rid of the washing powder now as well and invested in an eco egg which is working well so far and saves me a packet.

Not bought any for years. I used to use a little bit for woolen things when DC were small.

My mother never used it and I only started to use it when I had the DCs. I am trying to cut down using the tumble, (perhaps not a good time to try in this weather), and I always find the towels feel like sand paper if I don't use fabric conditioner. Based on the above comments I might try cutting back on it especially when I know that I am using the tumble.

We use it but not for towels. I like the smell. I prefer the smell of clothes hung outside to dry but it is just not possible all the time in Scottish weather.

I just use it automatically - I do love the smell of it on dry clothes. I don't use as much as the bottle suggests though (and although it makes towels softer, I quite like a rough towel)!

I only use it as needed, so towels and e cloths get none, clothes get 1/2 a cap and sheets get a full capful.

I only use the white ones, I cant stand the smell of the others.

No, I never use it. I prefer to hang the clothes outside to dry whenever possible (even if it is only for a little bit and then I finish the drying inside if it starts raining) and then ironing.

TBH I don't know why they call it 'conditioner', how is it supposed to 'condition'?

Interesting, I ran out so ended up doing a load without and can't actually see any difference. I don't use for towels or DS's nappies. Maybe I'll stop using it for a bit and see if we notice any difference.
I'm sure I read somewhere that it sets smells in clothes too.

Not on towels as I like ours scratchy

But in this weather when things are drying hanging around the house, I think it stops everything from getting that fusty smell.
