Instant firelog type products- your thoughts please.

Our house is rather tiny, with a lovely open fire. We struggle to find places to store the usual 'fire related' things- coal / coke, logs, firelighters etc.. So last year we resorted to using instant firelogs sometimes- we used crackle logs.

They work OK in our fireplace as it is pretty small.

Its a bit of an expensive way to have a fire though, and I'm unsure of the environmental impact when compared to more traditional fuel.

I've noticed a few similar products are available but I'm not sure how good they are.

Has anyone else tried this type of thing? Any recomendations?

I have a coal fire too but it is only lit at the weekend. I find the firelog handy to use sometimes especially when you need the fire lit quickly and don't have time for it to 'heat up'. I'm not sure of its cost compared to other fuel but I'm not using them all the time so can justify it to myself.
I know its not particulary helpful to your scenario but last winter I bought better quality coal and couldn't believe the difference it made. It was initially more expensive but was much more cost effective as it lasted for alot longer.

You can get the instant logs for a £1 in b&m's

I love them! But they are only an extra as the CH does its job, so the open fire is just a nice-to-have. I also like the fact that they last for a certain amount of time. So we use them mainly at the weekend.

But am not sure of the 'green' qualities they have or not.
