Do steam cleaners lift smells?

I love having a rug on our wooden floor in lounge but our last one, a jute rug, acted like a giant loofa (sp?) for the dog. After 12 mnths it was foul.

If I had a steam cleaner could i clean a rug with that and would it lift the smell? Or do i eed to buy the dog some doggy overalls?!

I found my steamer made smells worse.

Yy, doggy overalls or get him a big bed with a machine washable cover!

No room anywhere for a big bed as tiny house with too many kids! He gets up on couch and i put a blanket on there for him which i wash every few days. He isnt really a stinky dog but the rug just seemed to act like a magnet to his doggyness!

I find brushing him with a bit of lavender or lemon oil on the brush helps keep him smelling sweet.
