At the end of my tether with Miele Cat and Dog. Owners of hairy labradors needed!

I've had my Miele Cat & Dog for 4 years now. I had 2 cats when I bought it. At first it seemed ok. Never thought it was amazing though. After 16 months it broke and was replaced by Miele. The replacement was the same, ok but not amazing. I now have a lab. The Miele is unable to cope with the hair. It doesn't pick it up at all unless on hands and knees using the upholstery attachment.

Even then it doesn't get it all up.

It's been serviced. I've bought new floor heads. Filters changed etc etc.

Makes no difference.

So, where do I go from here? I don't want to buy a new vacuum only to find it is no better than the Miele. My carpets are quite long and thick which I suppose doesn't help matters.

I have spent nights crying at the state of my dog hair covered carpets and spending up to 2 hours a day hoovering them because I'm on my hands and knees doing it. I'm 33 weeks pregnant and can't do it any more!! Help!

Not being trite, but hard floors if affordable. We have a Bernese mountain dog which in the shedding stakes would make your lab look like an amateur - we only have carpet upstairs.....

dyson

We got new expensive carpets in January. Just before we got the dog!!

I never liked hard floors though so would not want to get rid of carpets!

Surely there must be a hoover that copes with dog hair!!

ahem

we had an old grey and green dyson that worked perfectly

Oh God OP I was you. On hands and knees trying to hoover up lab hair at 38 weeks gone.

Hard floors were the only way to go in the end. You still get lab hair, but it forms tumbleweed style balls that suck up the dyson when you point it in their direction.

No more hands and knees stuff.

Dyson and second choice Henry. Our upright Dyson is a basic one, but is far better than the Henry on carpet. Henry for hard floors though.

Our Golden Retriever killed our Miele Cat/Dog and the Dyson that replaced it- and we have wood floors and rugs. Going for a Henry next- that rotating head thing on the previous victims seems to be at fault. The hair winds like a bobbin around it and then.....RIP.

My mum swears by her Vax Pet. It is only cheap and very loud but is certainly powerful and seems to do a good job.
