I was given a Phillips big steam jobby in a mumsnet trial. Is brilliant and makes ironing soooo much easier and quicker!

Was that the 'Man Iron' MC? I have one of those and yes, they are excellent! I also like steam generators.

MadameCastafiore · 13/09/2012 18:14

No the steam generator one, wouldn't go back to normal iron now!

tribpot · 13/09/2012 18:15

This is mine and it rocks. Not available any more but Amazon points to a newer model.

Mendeleyev · 13/09/2012 18:17

Yes steam generator fabulous.

Solo · 13/09/2012 18:21

Ok MC :)

I agree that the steam generators are the dogs doodah's but! having used the Philips Man Iron, I have to say that if you can't afford a generator and let's face it, they can be hideous prices, that the Man Iron (can't recall if that's the proper name for it) is certainly the best ordinary steam iron I've ever used. Ever!!

Have just started new job as household skivvy - and they have a steam generator one which only appears to put out a burst of steam when the button on the handle is pressed down. Can't find the instruction book (and not there at the moment so can't tell you the make) but shouldn't it steam all the time if the steam on switch on the tank is turned to 'on'?

Solo · 18/09/2012 11:00

No, because if it did, you'd ruin out of water in the tank very quickly and you'd have a room full of steam and damp walls. You press when you are ironing the item.
