Getting school shirts white again!

DS1 started reception this week.
Every night, his shirt is stained with various paints, food, the usual suspects.
But it isn't cleaning up in the wash (I use 30' wash, non-bio liquid). I've always used non-bio since he was little, I guess just habit.

I cannot be arsed to soak school shirts every night.
I just wondered what others use to get whites white again and get rid of normal school stains! I obviously need to use something else - will bio washing liquid suffice?
Cheers

To get whites white you need a powder as it will contain bleach and optical brighteners.
You willl need biological detergent to get rid of most food stains as non-bio doesn't contain enzymes. Non-bio is no safer for skin, that is a myth.
I would say wash at 40+ with bio powder and you'll be fine. No need to add Vanish etc.

Now if anyone knows how to shift white board pen or acrylic paint?

I think it also depends on the polo shirt. I bought Ds1 stain defence polo shirts from M&S when he started reception, he is now in year 5 and any shirts I have passed down to Ds2 who is now in year 2!

I think the stain defence really works. They are more expensive than supermarket ones but I bought them as part of the 3 for 2 deal they have every summer. I use Persil whites bio powder and I never put any colour in with the whites, whites only. I wash whites at 40.

Now that Ds1 is in year 5 he just has supermarket ones as he doesn't get anywhere near as messy. Ds2 looks like he has rolled around on the playground every day Grin

Erm... you do realise that a hot wash can SET paint stains???!!!
As can the tumble dryer. If there's paint, or markers, you need to wash them in a cool wash, with bio wash at a minimum, preferably add some vanish or some other stain removal detergent.

you will probably not be able to get them pristine again, but what helps:

  • bio powder
  • scoop of soda crystals
  • warner wash, at least 40
  • hang out in the sun to dry
