WTF is going on with washing machines?

240 mins to do a cottons wash. That is FOUR HOURS! What's all that about then?

Does anyone make a machine that can hot wash my cottons in 90 mins like my old machine did?

Could it be 2hours 40 mins as opposed to 240 mins, mine does a 60 degree wash in 2hrs 35 mins, its because they are cold fill now instead of a mixture of hot and cold.

Does it have a "Quick" button? Mine does, and that halves the length of the programme, even at higher temperatures. Seems to clean the clothes ok, and I prefer a shorter wash as I can get more done in a given time. Obviously. Or is there a "synthetics" setting that assumes you are washing a small load? That's miles quicker on my machine.

Mine's just a cold fill too.

Cold fill, energy efficiency ratings, low water usage so need to spend more time spinning & soaking . Astonishes me, too. I grew up with top loaders that finished a hot wash in 15 minutes.

My 60 wash is over 3 hours , its ridiculous ! I use a lot of 59 minute washes , these get the darks and colours clean without having to spend half the day doin 2 washes !

Mine takes about 1.5 hours for a standard wash which is not hugely full. However, if you put more in it bumps up the time - to 3 hrs! Shock If I'm in a hurry I take out a couple of things and the time goes down to 3 hrs again. (Could use quick wash either.) I'm not so bothered about the time it takes actually, it's the unpredictability of it which is annoying as I like to take the washing out and hang it up soon after it finishes.

Anyway, it's one of the most energy efficient around, and I guess it's down to that.

You can buy a twin-tub. They are still used by more traditional older ladies. My granny used one until she pegged out two years ago. So did my aunt. I was surprised you could still buy them. Very fast and economical to wash but you have to stand over them.
