Iron recommendations please!

Can anyone recommend a good steam iron please - preferably one that will steam at lower temperatures?

I seem to go through irons pretty regularly for some reason. I like to use them on steam for pretty much everything except really delicate items, not just on cotton sheets etc. The one I have at the moment is OK except the water leaks out on the lower temperature (has always done so, it's not because it's old).

Boring subject I know but the ironing fairies don't visit this house to it's down to me Grin

"Which" always recommend Bosch. We had a Bosch and it did well.

But...get a steam generator. I got a cheapie Russell Hobbs one a year ago to test the concept and they really do make ironing easier/quicker. I intend to buy a good one once the RH one dies.

Thanks Purple - just had a quick google and they are expensive! Not sure I quite understand how they work - does the tank 'feed' the iron? What sort of price did you mean by a 'cheapie' if you don't mind me asking?

How sad am I - googling irons on a Sunday night!

I got a Phillips Steam generator iron a few months back and it is amazing. Honestly, cuts your ironing time down in half and actually makes it enjoyable Hmm

It was steep though, £130, but I think is worth it for my sanity in the long run.

You fill the base unit with water and the steam I fed through a hose that is connected to the iron. it means the iron is lightweight and on my model, you can have continuous steam too. There are different modes do you can have mega steam, gentler steam or an Eco setting. The tank lasts ages, a good hour at least, and is removable so you just refill and keep going, no need to wait for it to heat up (other than the orig switch on, and that's only a minute or so).

It does take up a bit of space at the end of the Ironing board so if you have a ledge or table next to it, best to pop on there. That said, I can still do duvet covers etc with it sat on the end of mine.

You can still select silks/cottons/linens etc on a dial on the iron too.

It can be a bit noisy, esp on full steam but I just turn the tv up! You get used to it and the benefits far outweigh his tbh.

Here is mine (I think, can't remember exact model number but looks like it)

Ps. Mine was the best rated by 'Which' at the time, and I shopped about for the best price which was Amazon at that time. I had just had a bonus at work so treated myself !
