I'm moving into our newly renovated house in two weeks time. Our joiner is busy laying our lovely solid oak flooring throughout the ground floor. I have a one year old and a three year old and am also considering childminding am now worrying that oak was a bad idea

So, please share your do's and don'ts for keeping it clean. I understand that mopping is a no-no Confused - what's the alternative???

I have a solid oak floor, a 4 (yesterday) yo and a nearly 1 yo. I do a weekly-ish clean with a microfibre mop and Method wood floor cleaner and a polish with Liquid Gold three or four times a year.

And a wipe with baby wipes as needed.

I'm quite slovenly, I sweep or vacuum it a lot and use the Method wood cleaner occasionally. Damp kitchen roll for spills, the biggest problem I have is drips round the sink and dishwasher. If I'm cooking a big meal I'll put a bit of kitchen roll on the floor and wipe up drips as I go with my foot. Classy.

Bikerunski, do you just splash the floor cleaner about and mop with a damp mop? Just got rid of our cleaners so I need to pull my socks up a bit!

I spray the cleaner on to the mop. It's one of those big flat ones.

Right, sounds like I need a new mop then. And no water at all - is this right? How do you rinse the mop out??

Baby wipes I can do!
