I don't iron, so non-creasing is pretty essential! Grin

What else should I look for? Do you love yours?

Recent legacies mean we don't have to limit the budget too much. (Thanks, Dad.) We do a lot of washing, thanks to teens and dear dog.

Just to add, my Miele has a 20 min wash cycle as it's quickest. Other washes vary from 1hr upwards.

Fayrazzled · 07/09/2012 21:37

Toughas- I love that feature too. I am always opening the machine once it has started when I find the sock/underpants etc I dropped on the stairs.

I have an ISE, after going through about 3 cheap washing machines in about 9 years (Hotpoint was the worst, Zanussi had to be repaired a few times, can't remember the other brand)

My trusty washing machine repair guy recommended the ISE, it has a 10 year guarantee, the parts are much cheaper than Miele (although hoping I won't need to buy any with such a long guarantee) and the customer service is meant to be better than Miele. He rates them much more highly than Mieles - he's never been called out to repair any ISEs that he's fitted.

I've had it for around 18 months and it's great. Great capacity, large opening for loading, delayed start, short cycle if needed. I only use a couple of cycles but I'm as happy as I could be with a washing machine!

Mmm 20 min wash cycle. And throw in a sock facility...

I believe indesit and hotpoint are the same company and I only got the indesit moon as I was getting my old old ariston replaced by domestic and general and I could only choose from one of the above manufacturers. I also would never take one of those warrantys out again as when I totted up the amount I had paid over the years I could have bought two new machines and they left me without a machine for over six weeks with two kids.Sad Now put a wee bit away each month so can just replace it when it breaks. An old friend worked for p and g and they use Miele to test the washing powders so must be goodGrin.

We have a Beko, cheap cheerful and works a treat. Has a display that show wash time and has loads of programmes including a 15 min wash. I do tons of washing and it's been great. Much as I would love a Bosch or Miele I just couldn't justify the cost.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/09/2012 09:18

Bosch Logixx, the clasixx and excell are made out of Germany.

The shorter cycles tend to use loads of water and electric to accomplish the cycle so quickly so if your on a budget you will spend more on electric.

SilkInsideAChestnutShell · 08/09/2012 10:23

When our dishwasher broke, we were advised to go for Beko by independent installer. He reckoned Bosch were no longer as good (moved factories out of Europe), and that he very rarely had to repair Beko appliances.
DH had all Hotpoint stuff when we got together. It must be 8 years old and still going strong and used a lot (washing machine, fridge freezer, tumble drier). Appliance Man says their older stuff is fine, it's stuff made in the last 5 years that us useless, and on his most-repaired list.

I want a Smeg. In powder blue. Curses on the everlasting Hotpoint frigo. Grin

Oh god I had a belt..it lasted all of 13 ,inths...utter utter crap.
Have a bosch classic now and it's fine.
Would have loved a really top of the range ine but just can't justify the expense...
I only use the quick cycle if I am in a hurry...uses more power than normal cycle iirc?

Badvoc · 08/09/2012 10:26

I would love a Miele.
Sigh....

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/09/2012 10:30

Miele do washing machine thats £2800. It has a steam function.

Bosch Logixx are still made in germany, the sticker in my dw says so.

CaptainHoratioWragge · 08/09/2012 10:38

I bought at Hotpoint Acquarius as it was literally all I could afford.

They are utterly, utterly crap.

I already knew that If I bought a more expensive make it would probably work out the same in the end in terms of cost per year, but just wasn't in a position to do so.

If money isn't an issue at the moment buy a reallly nice one

mieleorbosch · 08/09/2012 11:10

Very close now to going for an ISE. So I may also be a very happy Amazonian woman in the near future...Wink

I think I was unlucky with my miele, the main problem is the (digital) countdown which is not operating to the same atomic clock as the rest of the world -so if I put 30 min wash on at 6am - (generally panic washing of pe kit) - it isn't finished at 6.30, but more like 7.10. But like I said it is mostly the fact that the larger washes take forever (more than the stated 2hrs). I have started to wonder whether the circuit board is faulty, it's 4 years old.. but it will probably cost more to fix than a cheap new one. So either way look up the product manual of the one you're thinking of online first. My first (1995) Zanussi was definitely better (7 years) although smaller drum, and the 2nd zanussi was a disaster.
