Did my first ever Ikea trip the other day :-)

Ate meatballs, got laughed at my DH for stroking fabrics longingly an bought Trofast and Billy. I love them so much - keep going into the playroom and grinning. First ever new furniture I have ever bought, and it just...works. Plus it is all shiny and colourful.

Everything else in our house is hand me downs or second hand shop. Does the job, but I didn't choose it, iyswim.

We have agreed to have an Ikea budget, add a little bit each week, then when we have enough going back to get more :-D

Next I want some Stuva - a wardrobe and some drawers - so the kids can get to their clothes without doors falling off.

Then some Expedit for the front room. Actually, mybe Expedit and Billy - Expedit with doors and drawers to have tv, virgin box etc on top and wii stuff/ collection of phone chargers and wires/ Dhs vinyl underneath. Then Billy for DVDs, CDs, books, board games etc.

Dh saw a rug that looked like grass that he liked as well. Dnt know it's name, but we could get that too.

I love ikea. Use Expedits for just about everything at home and at work. Don't know how folk get by without it. That said, I have now spent so much time there that it can sometimes be a chore.

There's biscuits called Kakorchokefladden (sp?) which are bloody delicious as well. You should look into that! Also cheap pear cider!

No to billy, just expedit. T
Everywhere.

The red trofast drawers fit perfectly in expedit, btw.

CumberdickBendybatch · 03/09/2012 00:46

Go on pinterest and search expedit vinyl

UANBU
6 Billy book cases in 3 different rooms.
One other, actually nicer random book case, never had them again.

a Ikea shelving system in the living room that we've had some of for 15+ years and some bits we added a couple of years later when we got a bigger house.

This sadly was discontinued shortly after. Boo I'd like another shelf.

Unlike flimsy Argos and Home-base stuff non of the Ikea stuff has ever fallen apart and all the draw bases stay put.

The only maintenance needed is an allen key to tighten the much abused coffee table now and again.

The only damage was caused by me cooking one of the shelves with a candle and that's simply been swapped with the top one so you'd have to be 8ft tall to notice.

oh! and the meatballs of course.

i forgot I do have a complaint. The dimming table and sideboard are great, but we couldn't afford the matching chairs. The £9 each ones did get wobberly after 10 years of DDs and have been replaced.

YANBU worth it for meatballs alone...its just mega

IvanaNap · 03/09/2012 01:20

Did you take any DC with you?

Have to say, there is a lot of tat that doesn't last / wears quickly - but, yes, the meatballs alone are worth it.

CointreauVersial · 03/09/2012 01:34

Tis very fashionable to slag it off, but I heart IKEA!

Just don't go at peak times.

I always come back with a bagful of stuff I can't resist.

Looking around the house, we have a sofabed, two cupboards, a coffee table, a CD rack, a lamp table, a wicker chair, a wall storage unit, a wardrobe, a bed, a kitchen table and chairs, a laundry rack, several lamps, lampshades, pictures, baskets, candles, cushions and throws, and drawfuls of kitchen gadgets.... I appear to be living in an IKEA roomset.

Can't remember the daft names, though. And don't have a Billy, sorry.

I remember that feeling when you finally replace all of your hand me down stuff, I had knotty pine and DH had black ash both from our bedrooms at home some 15 years ago.

I now live just a few miles from Ikea and a lot of my stuff is from there. We have a playroom full of Trofast, bonde units in the office, the desk is also Ikea, a sofa bed in the playroom and the sofas in the lounge are Ikea.

I don't like their meatballs, sorry, my own version of Jamie Oliver's are nicer but I love their stuff.

EmpressOfTheGoldFlames · 03/09/2012 14:01

We love Ikea much more now our local store has a pick & deliver service.
No more need to get things out of the warehouse Grin, just wander round, give them a list & receive a couple of days later.

YANBU I love Ikea.

The meatballs are rank though too bouncy, I prefer my Swedish great grandmas recipe, the gravy and berries rule though.

ChunkyPickle · 03/09/2012 14:19

I don't like the meatballs (it's the funny colour gravy) but the coffee is surprisingly good..

DP hates it, but I love the little arrows showing me where to walk so I know I don't miss anything!

sagelynodding · 03/09/2012 14:23

Ikea is a favourite day out in the Sage household Blush. We have 6 sets of the Malm chests of drawers, tables, chairs, bedding, toys, big square pillows...

I was v excited to get the new catalogue yesterday, but nothing really grabbed my attention :(

I get all my Christmas wrapping/decorating stuff there too!

BrittaPerry · 03/09/2012 15:22

DH presented me with the brochure the other day. I already had it on my ipad :-D
