Dehumidifier for drying clothes??

With a sporty DH, toddler and newborn I am dreading a winter of trying to dry clothes. We have no space for a tumble dryer but am thinking of getting a dehumidifer to run in the bathroom alongside the clothes horse.

I can pull together a maximum of £150, running cost isn't really an issue, would prefer something that isn't too noisey and doesn't need emptying every 5 minutes. We don't generally have any damp problem so it would just be the water from the clothes it would have deal with.

Anyone got any recommendations?

TIA

We've got one of these and it's amazing at drying clothes. The amount of water it sucks out is incredible.

I wouldn't use it in a bathroom though, I don't think any would be safe for a bathroom.

Thanks for the recommendation Wrigglebum.

Should probably explain that our flat has an odd layout so whilst I say it's in the bathroom it's actully more of a inner hallway alongside the bathroom (bit of a waste of space really but good for shoving the clothes horse!)

has your bathroom got an extractor fan? can you put one of those roll-away lines over the bath?

if it has, you can leave that running, with the door closed, and it will draw the moisure vapour out (enough air will get into the bathroom through the gap under the door)

an extactor fan will typically run for 50 hours for 14pence.

it is more effective with the door closed as it prevents moisure diffusing throughout your home

Thanks pigletjohn, have got a extractor fan so will try that idea

Not a good idea, plug in electrical appliances and bathrooms do not mix.

Is there not room in the hallway bit for the tumble drier though ?

We live in a small terraced house and have had problems with trying to dry laundry indoors in winter. Smelly laundry, condensation etc. We bought a Delonghi dehumidifier, model DNC85 (probably replaced by an updated version by now!) and it has been great. It has several settings including two for laundry, is small but goes for several hours without needing emptying, easy to store away. Just remember to clean the water container regularly otherwise it'll get mildew.

We run it in the hallway upstairs or the small bedroom with door closed.

Heated clothe airers are good, and cheap to run, look on the lakeland website:)
