No clothes in bedrooms, just one big family wardrobe room/utility - too radical?

We are going to be redesigning a house we are buying to include a big extension, increasing it from a two-bed to a four-bed.

My pet hate, and the job that always gets put off as long as possible, is laundry sorting and putting away. There are two adults and three children.

Following yesterday's utility room thread, I've been pondering the best designs to minimise laundry piles, and am thinking that if we had no clothes stored in bedrooms, but instead had a big laundry room with enough clothes storage for us all, it would be easier to organise, and also to shut the door on and pretend it didn't exist!

My three boys are still small though, would this be a bad thing as they get older?

Also, it's not our 'forever house', so would future purchasers think this odd? There'd be enough room in the bedrooms to add in storage if they wanted though, I guess.

Would lack of privacy be a problem?

Opinions gratefully received!

We have a clothes room, which has got a chest of drawers for each of my dc's. It makes putting the washing away much easier ditto getting them organised in the morning.

I'd imagine as they get older, and want their own rooms (they like sharing at the mo) the clothes room will have to go.

You have to keep the door closed though, as its a bit of a riot!

So, how did it go? @Crocodilio

Yes to a decent laundry room upstairs but no to the communal wardrobe. I would have hated this as a teenager.

I think you will be much more organised with a dedicated space.

You just need to be consistent. A daily wash, hang, fold and put away of dried clothes is standard here.

We looked at a house that had a laundry chute, it was an older house and they had nipped off the end of a bedroom to make a slim long room with the chute and an ironing board in and some storage. The washing machine was downstairs. I loved the house but it had no driveway and parking looked like a nightmare on the road.

I wouldn't want clean and dirty clothes all in the same space.
I have a laundry room where things hang waiting to be ironed (mammoth once q week task) then immediately put in wardrobes. Anything that doesn't need hanging is put in named crates and everyone apart from the baby puts their own away....no knickers/ socks / gym kit in bedroom: not my problem.
