Storing toddler jigsaws

AngelDog · 16/08/2012 21:44

We have quite a few big jigsaws for my 2 y.o. and I can't work out a good way to store them.

We don't leave them in the original boxes as (a) he doesn't look at the picture anyway, (b) the bottom falls out so they're no good as boxes and (c) I want the boxes to stay nice in case I want to flog them at a later stage.

Ziplock bags are no good as DS struggles to do them up/undo them.

Any suggestions?

Shoe boxes.

Basic (but then I am pretty basic!) - we store them in her empty shoe boxes. They are pretty robust and I do plan to paint/cover them, but as yet have not got round to that. Will be keen to hear other suggestions......

Cheap tupperwares/storage boxes?
Put a picture of the actual jigsaw on the lid with the title, he may not be reading yet but it helps with letter recognition later.

If you have room these are invaluable

You can buy diferent sized drawers or have loads of the thin ones, keep one jigsaw/game in each or two to a drawer & store a few away so you can rotate them.

Kids shoe boxes?

Ikea do compartmentalised boxes these or wall pockets like these

Ah yes Bossy we have the trofast system but the smaller one. It's a great height for DS as he can play on the top (eg with playdoh etc)

SilveryMoon · 16/08/2012 21:56

I use tupperware pots like Bossy suggests.
They then live in a big under-bed storage box under the bed.

Bossybritches22 · 16/08/2012 22:03

Iggly yes great for that or you can get 2 units & put one upside down on the other to form a whole square.

I like the way you can get a variety of sized trays. My friends little one has one for her clothes, to aid her independance, with pictures of her fav knickers on one drawer, tops on another etc. The deep ones are great for big items like jumpers or hoodies.

Genius idea for the clothes! Might do that for DD.

AngelDog · 18/08/2012 08:22

Thanks for the ideas.

We have Trofast upstairs for some of the not-used-so-often toys and DS's art stuff. I probably want to keep the jigsaws in the living room, where we already have lots of shelf space.

I like Really Useful Boxes as DS can open the lids himself, but they're a bit pricey. I'll have a look out for some cheaper tupperware.
