My oven has been cleaned - it's a miracle! How the hell do I keep it like that?

Ovenu have done a fantastic job, it's spotless (2 of them took 2.5 hours!).

How do I clean it and how often? It's supposedly self cleaning, which as we all know is a giant con, but it means I can't use strong, caustic stuff as the man said it would eventually eat away the inside of the oven.

Brillo pad and hot soapy water once a month?! Confused

Tell me what you do.

Yep brillo pad or sugar soap once a month and use a tray underneath when you cook anythin to minimise spills. :)

Maybe you should come up with a weekly cleaning schedule... So that your DH has instructions and a list to follow. My DH is virtually incapable without explicit instructions and a list.

With your DC in nursery 2 days a week he will have time.

Uuummmmm how did I manage to post on the wrong thread? This was not the thread I was reading! Confused

Foil and this -

Mum2Fergus · 15/08/2012 22:20

How much did it cost if you dont mind my asking?!

I've recently cleaned my ovens after being too scared to touch them for the past 4 years.... Blush

I used Ovenclean which was brilliant - I piled all the shelving in plus the grill pan etc, left it all in the bag in the bath overnight. Turned the bag over several times. The water was black by the time I emptied it out the next morning.

The rest of the liquid in the bottle, I spread all over the bottom of the ovens and left a while before cleaning it off with a scouring sponge.

The glass doors which I couldn't see through before, came up brilliantly after I made a paste of bicarb and lemon juice. My ovens look like new.

I laid a sheet of foil on the bottom of the big oven to catch drips of melted cheese from any pizzas.

Lemonylemon · 16/08/2012 13:48

Oh, I discovered the bicarb/lemon juice paste from a thread on this board.

My Dyson also blew up at the same time, so I bought a Miele "cats & dogs" vacuum cleaner by reading another thread.... and it is a BEAST.

Ooh I'm getting mine done tomorrow and I'm ridiculously over-excited about it.
Definitely going to get one of those Lakeland thingy-me-bobs to stop it getting into this state again.
Also going to treat myself to new baking trays to go with the shiny oven (really, really need to get a life)

BikeMedalsRunningMedals · 16/08/2012 13:57

I have my oven cleaned by Ovenu once a year - it's amazing isn't it? Lakeland, sell a non-caustic cleaning gel, which I think might be much the same as what Ovenu use. I am thinking of getting some for interim cleans. When schools have gone back, and it might be possible to get into Meadowhall.

Also - I put a baking tray under pie dishes to catch any overflow gravy/juice.

CeliaFate · 16/08/2012 17:33

Mum2Fergus it was £99 for a double oven, grill, 6 hob ceramic, extractor fan and hood.
2 of them were here for 2.5 hours in total.
Not cheap, but my God, it's worth it!

Um, you do nothing. then when the smoke alarm starts going off when you use the grill it's time to get the man back. Wink

justtryingtodomybest · 17/08/2012 11:22

Mine has just been done - it is amazing! Who knew you could actually see through the oven door!
Off out to get new baking trays - I am so rock n roll!
