Need some motivation, don't know where to start...

The house is a bit of a mess :( there seems tpo be clothes/clutter everywhere I look. We used to have a cleaner once a fortnight but didn't feel it was really value for money so cancelled, and now it's all piling up pretty quickly. OH is a SAHD but self employed so does the odd job occassionally- maybe a day or 2 a month on average. I work ridiculous hours full time and we have a toddler who is as of 6 weeks ago in nursery 2 days a week. The problem is that while DP does a brilliant job of the Daddy bit the 'house work' element is all really half hearted, and he just doesn't get the meaning of multi-tasking. So back to the point of my post, I'm working from home today, DD at nursery and DP working (it's been blissfully quiet) and i've been unbelievably productive, so while I'm very tempted to have a bath and a coffee I want to try to sort things. Where do I start though? What will make the biggest impact? The house isn't dirty but is really quite untidy. We either have too much stuff or not enough storage. motivate me please!

You can do it!! Just start by picking up clothes and putting away toys etc. be ruthless about throwing/giving things away if you don't have the storage space. Once the floors are clear of clutter it's much easier to keep clean with the Hoover :)
Good luck. Xxx

Well I've started, washing on, dishwasher emptied and reloaded, clothes/shoes/coats moved to the relevant rooms. Have to say though the more I'm doing the more obvious it is that he's been cutting loads of corners and doing stupid things like washing DDs jeans in with her tops so they are now all a funny grey colour, and not tumble drying towels so even my nice ones are all crispy :( i also just lifted 7 pairs of his shoes from either the back or front door! Argh! Think I might need a week off work to get things organised at this rate, or a Wine

You can do it. It might take some time to get organised and keep a routine but once you get going its easy to keep on top of. :) xxxxxxx

My motivation is primarily about trip hazards and hygiene issues for the children, but starting there really helps clean the floor, and then to do that I have to clear other things along the way! Might be worth a chat with your DH along these lines?

I have been trying to get into a routine. I work on the basis that the kitchen has the most traffic so if it can be kept in order half the battle is won. Good luck with getting sorted.

Is your DH open to being taught how to clean etc properly - he may not know how!
Could you do his some detailed lists of how to do tasks- eg putting on washing means sorting into whites/darks/pales/brights, putting on relevant washer setting (give list) . Do a lsit of things that go in tumble dryer and things that don't that kind of stuff!?
