Hiding a horrible carpet

We have a dark royal blue carpet in our bedroom. I hate it, but we can't afford to get rid of it altogether as we are moving in 2 years and DH doesn't think it will be worth it (is he right about this?).

We have a charcoal rug which is quite large, but would only cover half the room, should I bother? And does anyone have any other suggestions on how to make it less of an eyesore?

If you own your home and are planning to sell in two years, do you think potential buyers would like the carpet? If I thought it would put people off I would definitely opt for changing it.

And actually, IMO, bare floorboards are better than a mingling carpet (as evidenced by the paint- and plaster-stained boards gracing my living room)

I prefer floorboards too but was worried about the noise - might see if I can pull up the carpet and see what's underneath, its a victorian house so might be something decent!

the carpet is horrible, don't think anyone would like it. DH lived in the house with his mum before and as it was new they didn't want to take it up. Now they don't want to cos of the hassle of moving the furniture round!

I'm talking to myself now but DH has agreed to redoing the floor! Grin trying to decide between nice laminate or hassle of sanding floorboards.

Sand the floor boards! Sounds lovely!

Agree floorboards are lovely, but too noisy for upstairs. Cheaper carpet is fine for bedrooms, and a light colour will make room seem larger, so I'd definitely recarpet before viewers arrive.
