Unshrinking a woollen jumper?

FamiliesShareGerms · 14/08/2012 07:18

is it possible? DH's lovely wool jumper has shrunk in the wash. Is it permanent, or would re-washing and stretching when wet have any effect? Or some other trick??

Permanent, in my experience.

Only trick that will work is to buy an exact replacement and then never wash it hotter than 30degrees.

Sorry.

Erm, I think it's had it. I don't think you can reverse shrinking! Got any small dss or nephews who might like it?

Very annoying I know. I've shrunk countless jumpers much to the delight of my Japanese friend.

Soak it in a tepid woolite solution for about 15 mins then lay on a towel away from any heat to dry and stretch it to full size every half hour or so I have done this and it works most of the time

Depends - did it felt? If it did then give it to the dog for a luvverly new bed

Thanks everyone - I suspect it may have felted (it feels very different), so it may be consigned to the charity shop (DH is very big and it hasn't shrunk evenly, so sure it would fit anyone I know). Though I might try the Woolite thing - nothing to lose...

It would be a Lacoste, wouldn't it... Never have this problem with M&S!

Update: soaking in warm water then hanging on the washing line and pulling it very hard (arms and body) worked! DH has his favourite jumper back (phew!)
