What do you tumble dry?

Just bought a tumble dryer for the first time in my life. Is it just socks and pants? Or is it ok for t shirts, jeans, kids uniform etc? I'm excited, in a sad kind of way...

I don't use one. But you can tumble dry most things. You just need to check the labels.

fivegomadindorset · 12/08/2012 12:40

Towels only, trying to save money. I try not to tumble dry my trousers as they shrink slightly.

stainesmassif · 12/08/2012 12:42

Everything. Too lazy/busy to peg out now.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 12/08/2012 12:42

Btw, it's a square with a circle (sorry if you already know). It will have a cross through it if you can't tumble dry it.

Melindaaa · 12/08/2012 12:44

Everything. If it can't be tumble dried, it has no place in my home. I hang out NOTHING. Ever.

Ineedadollar · 12/08/2012 12:49

Pretty much everything! Not my baby's hand knitted cardis but everything else is ok. School uniforms are especially suited to tumble drying, they then dont need ironing Wink

LadySybildeChocolate · 12/08/2012 12:58

Everything. I suffer from hayfever, so I'd rather not hang clothes outside so they can get covered in pollen, ds is asthmatic so I'd rather not put the heating on inside or leave them to collect dust.

DontCallMeMummyPig · 12/08/2012 13:14

Oh good! So things don't usually shrink? And is it true that if you take things out when they're still warm, they don't need ironing?

Towels, bedding etc.
Underwear (except for bras)
Jeans

I don't tend to do other clothes, just because I want to avoid shrinkage. But by getting rid of the bulkier stuff this way, I can easily air dry the rest in the utility room (which the dryer makes nice and warm anyway, so good for drying them).

When I'm guaranteed a drying day (ie. that I won't have to run in and out again with my washing, then I do dry what I can outside, to save a bit of money and be a bit greener. But I still tumble towels and bedding whatever the weather.

tittytittyhanghang · 12/08/2012 13:25

Everything, but i've had a few oopsies, anything with duck feathers (like dp's ridicously expensive coat) definitely does not tumble dry. And you can over dry too and then clothes are a nightmare to iron (think jeans). And some clothes shrink, i find these tend to be dp's designed t shirts and certain types of trousers too.

GetOrfMoiRing · 12/08/2012 13:27

Socks and pants (I can't bear crunchy socks) and towels and bedding in the winter months.

I much prefer line drying but it is useful to have a tumble drier for when it pisses down.

peeriebear · 12/08/2012 13:38

Everything here too. It gets the dog and cat hair off Blush and I don't have to iron. My electricity bill is still low.

ggirl · 12/08/2012 13:42

I only use the tumble dryer when it's too wet/cold to hang out. I do tumble towels for 10 mins first so they are still soft.

I hvae been wondering why I am the only one hanging stuff out , both neghbours have changed recently and my new ones never hang out..so they're just lazy feckers Smile

GetOrfMoiRing · 12/08/2012 13:43

I don't like towels when they are tumble dried - much prefer crunchy towels.

MousyMouse · 12/08/2012 13:47

towels mostly. just for half an hour to fluff them up.

vvviola · 12/08/2012 13:48

Like ggirl - I only use it when it's too wet (or too unpredictable & I'm not going to be around) to use the line.

With the exception, at the moment of my jeans, some leggings & tops, which I am desperately trying to shrink as I'm losing weight but not buying more clothes til I've lost more Grin

DameEnidSpink · 12/08/2012 13:51

I can tumble pretty much everything bar a couple of expensive silk / wool items.

DH even buys washable tumble-able suits for work.

I line dry as much as possible (or hang up to dry indoors if raining), but always finish them off in the dryer, get them out pronto, smooth, fold and then most things don't need ironing either
