I've just moved into a new house that needs really wide curtains. The windows are 236 cm wide (93 inches) and nowhere seems to sell curtains that wide, unless I get them specially made to measure.

Surely I'm not the only one with windows this size? Wwide curtains must be available cheaply somewhere mustn't they?

Are you sure that you've got the measurements of the curtains right? When it says, for example, 148 x 156, it means each panel is that big, and you get two.

(John Lewis def do curtains that would fit your window)

Yes I second that. The given measurement will be for each panel. You can usually get 228 x 228 cm curtains for French doors etc and they would stretch out for four metres or so. Obviously they don't look as good stretched right out flat but you wouldn't need to do that.

ApricotPoodle · 11/08/2012 23:17

Oh ooops, so the measurements are per single curtain rather than a pair I see.
In that case, can I also ask another silly question, where the measurements give the width and length, width means horizontal measurement and length means the drop (vertical ceiling to floor measurement) doesn't it?

Ready-made curtains come in 90" width which would be suitable for your window. They are sold in pairs (except some in Ikea), so you can gather them quite a bit.

Fiveflowers · 11/08/2012 23:21

Yes, width = horizontal and length is the drop.

Fiveflowers · 11/08/2012 23:22

And don't forget if you have heading tape on them this will stick up a bit above the curtain rail or pole, so allow for that when you measure the length they need to be.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 11/08/2012 23:39

And when you read the measurement, width is always given first. So 148 x 228 would mean 148 wide, 228 drop. Smile

You've got it apricot Smile
