Simple question! What's the best way to defrost my upright freezer quickly? Somebody left the door open and the ice monster has moved in....

I use a hairdryer set on hot - that's pretty speedy, but I like Tirednesses suggestion - may try that next time.

Oh thanks for the tips! I can't believe I hadn't thought of using a hairdryer before Wink

I'll probably use hairdryer this time (as I need to do it quick before food delivery arrives) and use the hot water method when it's a planned defrost.

Thanks again folks! Smile

I use my hand held steam cleaner for this job. Takes an hour or so.

Glad I stumbled across this thread, my son did the same and eft the door open...got food shop tomorrow and my shelves are half the size because of the frost!

if there is a lot of ice in there, the bowls or tubs of hot water will go cold surprisingly quickly.

I would be anxious using steam or a blower as it may melt some of the plastic parts

never never never use a knife or hammer or anything hard to break the ice off. If you crack or puncture any of the coils you will have to buy a new freezer.

If it's not a chest freezer, use a fan Grin Very quick usually
