How can I avoid crispy socks??!!

Hiya!

Having to use a launderette for washing and money is a bit tight. I've used a launderette before, but when I line dry the socks, they end up all crispy, not nice and soft as we like them from the drier. When I last went, it was £3 for a wash, and 50p for 7 mins in the dryer!

I want to keep things as cheap as poss, so any advice how I can have soft socks without having to use a dryer?

Also, if it does come to it....how long should I put socks in the dryer for (will have approx 20ish pairs)?

Thanks Smile

you can't hang the socks outdoors at home?

laundrettes usually have softened water, so they should rinse the soap out, but have a look at the soap compartment as they are often clogged and crusted with damp old soap. It might seem a bit fussy to clean the machine in a laundrette.

Wool socks will shrink and wear thin in a tumbler. If you haven't got a line, I suppose you could roll and bang them in a towel and spread out to dry. Cotton socks are OK to tumble. Driers seem to work better with a full mixed load than if nearly empty, so just put them in with the other stuff.

...and if you give another 'shake and turn' before they fully dry on the line that seems to help.

Thanks for all your responses Smile

No, sadly I can't hang them outdoors. Will try out all the advice you have given though!

The laundrette near me has huge driers and they dry things soooo quickly - I'm sure your 50p will dry your socks & some other light stuff, that wont break the bank :)

I occasionally use it in the winter if I've had guests & have a lot of linen to dry, but other than that I dry all of our stuff on the line or on an airer as I don't like clothes being tumble dried really - if you just give the socks a rub and put your hand in them before putting them on, they're fine.
