Washing oil out of my change bag

Hi, I wonder if anyone has any tips for me.

We had a bottle of oil leak in our change bag (baby massage oil) and I'm struggling to get it out. The bag says it isn't machine washable and to clean with a damp sponge only. Have washed it a few times in the sink but it still feels greasy to the touch.

Any tips?

What bag is it? I have machine washed many changing bags that said hand wash only. They all came out fine and looked like new. Also what type of oil is it? I have never had any luck getting olive oil out of things, but almond oil seems to wash out easier.

I've washed my non-washable change bag on a hand wash cycle before.

Stuck in some Napisan and it was fine. The dividers lost some rigidity, but I found that actually made it easier to stick things in so not a huge loss. However, it did take ages to dry.

It is this bag if that helps.

Not sure what sort of oil it is - doesn't smell of anything recognisable and was just given to us on the course.

I suppose I could take the plunge and washing machine it? Anything I should or shouldn't do in that case?

Maybe stick it in a pillowcase to protect it more and pop a couple of towels in the wash as well to stop it bashing about as much.

A gentle cycle - so hand wash or silk would be the way to go, and then et it out ASAP.

Good luck!

I've washed on of those! Did it on a 40 degree wash with bio powder (think I chucked in some napisan as well), it came out fine the only thing I would suggest is making sure all the velcro bits are fastened as I got loads of fluff stuck in mine that I had to hook out afterwards.

Carpejugulum's idea of putting it in a pillowcase is a good one. I wish I'd thought of that rather than spending 50 mins worrying the bag clip bit was going to smash my washing machine door.

I had something similar happen in mine and used nearly an entire packet of Dettol wipes on it. Did work though. Maybe try something like that first if you're worried as your bag looks really nice and was ££! I'd be gutted!
Otherwise, delicate wash and pillowcase is the way to go Smile.
