Why is everything in my freezer getting freezer burn?

Hmm even things in sealed tupperware is getting all iced up and dry looking when it hasn't been in there very long. Our freezer is in need of a de ice which is all I can think of unless it's on the blink - so I'm wondering if it could be that. Is it safe to eat foods in such a state (I'm panicking about this)?

If there is a lot of ice is it pushing the door open.

Or maybe a child someone has fiddled with the temp setting. I didn't even know our freezer had one until it started really icing up and that was because DD had found the dial.

Temp setting is the same as usual and there is quite a bit of ice build up inside it has to be said but not much on the front of the doors and the suction of the door seems to be OK Hmm

oh, have nn changed for olympics btw but tis me, OP Grin

ah Grin but I don't know what is wrong with your freezer. I shall use all my technical knowledge to say it might be broken. Sorry.

I think the food is safe - might not be so nice though.

you can buy a fridge and freezer thermometer for a few pounds in any cookware shop.

AFAIK freezer burn happens more if the stuff is loosely wrapped or in a big container with an air gap. Maybe if you wrap stuff tightly in film things will improve. It is still safe to eat, though the texture may be spoiled.

piglet we have a freezer thermometer. If we put it at the back of the freezer it's fine. If I put it at the very front (ie in front of the shelves between the drawers and the door) it's been too high a little but I'm not sure if that is an increase in the time it takes me to pick it up to look at it Hmm . But it is safe to eat even if it is all dried and iced like that?

why hope it's not broken!

I'd like to know the answer to this too. Am renting a vair, vair, expensive flat here in southern hemisphere. A fancy Samsung fridge'freezer is here but I too am looking at my frozen peas and thinking "Iceland" due to the ice freeze. Has never happened before.

I'm the one who pushes frozen peas/brocolli etc down below the "freeze line" in supermarches.

archareastie · 28/07/2012 09:25

zhagh there's a freeze line in supermarches? Shock Hmm

Zhaghzhagh · 28/07/2012 11:46

Arch - oh yes. It's very obvious (unless the supermarche has illegally stacked stuff above it). I always pull out my petit pois from below the line.
