I know this has been done to death, probably by me once upon a time, but I can't be arsed to trawl through all the threads.

I want to spend no more that £150 (so any sales you know about then let me know!).

I have two cats who shed lots of fur. I have two small children (6 and 2.5) who are the equivalent of living in a cyclone.

I have wooden floorboards and a rug in the front room, lino in the kitchen and bathroom, two lots of carpeted stairs.

I also have back problems. This is a big of an issue but to be honest not a huge one, as when my back is bad, the lightest of cleaners would be problematic to use. So, really, upright is ok, as long as it glides and maneovers easily. DH would likely do the stairs/take it up and down the stairs and storage is not too much of an issue in that we have no where to put it whatever kind it is! (techincally i should not really be hoovering at all, but that is just not possible).

I would ideally like a miele, but know these are pricey, and there are several varieties, but if we can get one in a sale, bonus! However, am open to suggestions.

Miele Cat & Dog....I'm on phone so can't have a look for sales, but can very much recommend the hoover!

All the attachments are stored inside so you can wheel them around with you and not have to keep going back and forward, it's pretty light, the cord is sooo long, and it's great with cat hair.

Also although they say to change the bag when it's full, I just empty the contents into the bin and put it back in. A bit of a hassle but you can get 2 or 3 uses out of each one easily, which cuts costs a little.

A dyson anyday! Look on eBay for bargains as they tend to be around £220 new!
I invested in a dyson few months back and would never look back. Works brill and I know no it will last.

I went crazy and spent all of £35 on a Genie express vac from Asda. It is very light, bagless, and deals very well with the endless cat and dog hair (sometimes there is naught but a big ball of hair and dust rolling round and round in the cylinder!)
The only drawback I have found is that it doesn't have a rigid extension tube for the hose to use by hand, just a nozzle to put on the end IYKWIM.

I smashed my Dyson to bits- whose bright idea was it to make the rigid, angled, no-access-from-any-direction pipe exactly the same diameter as a 2p coin Angry

I also hated my dyson - I found it really heavy and hard to manouvere (sp?). But admittedly there are hundreds of dyson models I've not tried!

The Genie express sounds good! Sometimes I think the bagless ones are best for hair seeing as you can just empty the ball out!

But I still love my miele :)

I hated our upright dyson with a passion - it was so heavy and cumbersome and was forever breaking.

I finally got rid of it last year and bought a Sebo - it is fantastic!

Mines a cylinder, dc19t2 and it's fab :-)

I have just bought a new vacuum cleaner after our Dyson finally gave up the ghost. We have three cats, two children and both hard wood, stone and carpet. I did a lot of research (am a geek) and bought this: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002IIEL6Q/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00

It's very lightweight, EXTREMELY efficient, easy to manoeuvre, bagless and easy to empty, long cord and good for stairs.

And, it's only £99 on Amazon (which is annoying as it was £127.00 two weeks ago when I ordered it Hmm)
