clutter and crap thread

I have started to clear out a unit which i want to get rid of. Full of rubbish and clutter. loads of pencils, paperclips, staples for unknown staplers. duplicates of most things. enough to open a stationers.

have managed to sharpen pencils, bagged up crayons for church creche etc, and am just about there but the clutter and bits and pieces shoved in drawers is astounding.

i have effectively lost some of these drawers which have been useful but I think it just encourages me to hoard stuff. at least now i know where things are.

i still have one tin full of rubbish but it is quite satisfying. if only the kids cleared up stuff instead of dumping it on surfaces and then it being tidied away in drawers.

good to hear if others on mumsnet are making progress with this sort of thing. i have a charity bag on the go as well.

I'm having a major declutter at the moment - working my way through every drawer and cupboard in the house, one by one.
I have seperate storage for kids craft stuff and 'grown up' stationary.
I bought small clip lid boxes and labelled them for the kids - crayons, felt tips, sellotape, glue and scissors etc etc. They stack nicely in 2 drawers. I have decided 2 large drawerfuls is ENOUGH so anything that won't fit in there needs to go!

Grown up stuff is in the study upstairs. The only thing I have duplicates of is scissors (can never have too many!) but holepunches etc - you only need one! Also, I left ONE of everything easily accessible in the adult drawer, and 3 in the kids drawer (eg glue sticks, sellotape) and I have bundled any spares up and put them in a box on a high shelf, clearly labelled.

I find it worryingly satisfying to organise drawers. I think it might be the pregnancy!

Have also started a major de clutter and likewise doing a drawer / cupboard at a time. Have taken 3 bin liners to charity and 2 in the plastic recycling bin.
Have sorted out all the DVDs into the correct boxes, chucked old food out of fridge.
Am low carbing so need to keep busy!

in my house things disappear into my teenage daughters' bedrooms so i need several hole punches, scissors etc. i am getting there but it is time consuming and creates mess.

so much easier to shove things in drawers and forget about them I think
