There's some really baked on greasy yuk - the racks and metal bits are all removable for cleaning, but can I put them in the dishwasher? Or is there a different good way to get them sparkling again?

I use Oven Pride for mine, you can get it in Wlkinsons.

Its the bottle of super strength cleaner and a bag, put your trays in the bag with the liquid and leave overnight. They come out sparkling.

Don't do what a friend of mine did and leave it on the kitchen table, the bag leaked and now the table has to be sanded and varnished! It's very strong stuff!

You can put them in the dishwasher but it won't get everything off. But do it to see what is left. Then you need one of those oven sprays or you can get sleeve type things to put the whole shelf in.

I spray mine outside on newspaper. It it really powerful so I don't do it inside. It will kill the grass and obviously should be done away from your dc.

Then I hose them down.

My SIL used that stuff once....brilliant for a one off but how about routine cleaning?

Same for greasy roasting tins?

Oven Pride. Tis the only way! You do still have to scrub it after though. But it works. If only I could find a solution for the rest of the oven!!

Oven Pride. Ours smoked like buggery, hadn't been cleaned for AGES - racks came out like bloody new. Regular runs through the dishwasher might keep them that way!

If you put them in the dishwasher and get them out when they're hot (use gloves), you can take one of this wire scourer thingies to them and they come up spotless.

a less chemial-ly option is to soak the racks in a strong solution of biological washing powder. leave overnight and the next morning the grot just wipes off.

i have used this on very manky oven shelves and they came up like new.

OhDearNigel · 09/07/2012 10:42

I Oven Prided at the weekend. Oh how beautiful the oven looks now....

I would second biological washing powder - works a treat.
Be warned though, your shelves will be so spotlessly clean that when you put something in the oven it will slide all the way to the back and have to be retrieved (carefully!).
