Any suggestions on how to remove? Sorry if this has been done before, my search wouldn't work.

Thanks

put them in a dish washer.

Yankeecandlequeen · 09/07/2012 10:13

How about rising it straight after drinking it? I don't have stains in my mugs.

LittleTyga · 09/07/2012 10:50

I've got some mugs that don't stain but my Cath Kidston ones stain badly - they all get washed the same but CK mugs for some reason need bleaching occasionally.

MousyMouse · 09/07/2012 10:52

warm water with washing up liquid and scratchy sponge.
bleach only bleaches the stain, doesn't remove it.

Bar Keepers Friend

Fiveflowers · 09/07/2012 19:02

As loopydoo said, bicarb with hot water, leave to soak.

Bicarb is great for cleaning, and not dangerous if you accidentally leave some residue.

Northernexile · 09/07/2012 19:03

Milton, cold water, ten minutes. Ta dah!

AWomanCalledHorse · 09/07/2012 19:07

Another vote for denture tablets (I use Tesco Own brand, 30 for 55p).
GiveThe, DH drinks black coffee, I drink herbal teas and they get a slight stained look after a while (I 'denture' the mugs everyother month).

TeaOneSuger, is Bar Keepers Friend useful for other things around the house?

lubeybooby · 09/07/2012 19:09

scourer + elbow grease. If you use bleach or milton you're just bleching the crud left behind and not properly removing it. Scrub!

Another vote for denture tablets. Put one in the bottom of the mug and fill up with boiling water. Leave for 30 minutes or so then wash well.

wonkylegs · 09/07/2012 19:20

Bicarb & hot water or if really bad bicarb & vinegar ... And you get a foamy sideshow which the kids like.

littleweed10 · 09/07/2012 19:23

Anarchist, do you live in a hard water area? It makes tea stains a real pain to shift.

daisymoo123 · 09/07/2012 19:34

rub salt on the tea stains and hey presto, clean mugs

I drink black tea & coffee, so my mugs all get a bit stained. I'm another vote for denture tablets Grin easy peasy to use and as they're meant for teeth I've never worried about anything other than normal rinsing etc.

The3Bears · 09/07/2012 20:29

Milton, sterilising liquid in hot water I do my cutlery with it aswell to get the stains off :)

Washing powder fans - is it biological or non-bio? Or does it not matter?

lisaro · 09/07/2012 20:38

Ew how mucky. Wash by hand with a plastic scrubber. Tea stains never ever get chance to build up of you clean them properly. dishwasher isn't quite as good so make sure you scrub every few uses.

EduStudent · 09/07/2012 21:48

Well, I use non-bio, cos I'm a sensitive soul.

TeaOneSugar · 09/07/2012 22:55

awomancalledhorse Barkeepers friend is brilliant for cleaning my white plastic sink, but I also use it for tea stains and cleaning pans, it gets burned bits off really easily.

Emmie10 · 10/07/2012 16:52

Salt with one or two drops of water. Makes a sort of dry paste which is very abrasive and will get all the marks off.

121 · 10/07/2012 20:15

thanks xx edustudent

p.s. there is no way I'm re-washing up tea mugs which haven't be done properly by dp!!!! A once-in-a-blue-moon magic fix fits the bill way better! Smile

fossil97 · 10/07/2012 22:18

It was a revelation to me on getting a dishwasher that whatever mega-bleach is in those little tabs, takes the stains right off the mugs and teaspoons.

Prior to that, Barkeepers friend did a good job. It is good for all sorts of stains, defo worth having a bottle.
