Tips for moving house out of rental

Have done a search on this and yet didn't find any good threads.

We are moving at the beginning of August all being well. I have started going through each room and doing a deep clean so that when we come to move out we will be able to concentrate on the floors and the paintwork. It is a rental so we need to ensure the place is immaculate.

I have over the past month downloaded the organisation threads and made notes on how we will run the new house better. For example we will have ;

  • a mini filing system in a sideboard next to the front door and a paper bin next to it for junk mail
  • a daily diary on the sideboard and bags prepacked in the sideboard for various activities
  • a shelf in the hallway above the sideboard with a wicker basket each so each of us can put 'things' there and a hook underneath for our day bags
  • a shelf high on the wall in the bathroom for bulk purchases and spare towels etc
  • a tall freezer in the utility with built in cupboards for storing items bought in bulk
  • purpose built toy storage in the family room :) :) :)

So, I would like to make the move happen as quickly and as efficiently as possible - does anyone have any top tips? All being well DD will be at nursery the two days leading up to the move and the move day itself. She won;t be able to go into her own room straight away but will continue in her cot in our room for just a weekend while DH gets her floor laid. I have looked up checklists but they always seem to be a bit rubbish.

Oh and we moved this time last year (waiting to find a house after securing buyer for ours) and the removals van cost seems to have doubled since then!

Microwave meals are fine for a few days
Wine/champagne in fridge
Try not to worry if its not all done once
Good plan with filing system. Do you have room for a full size one somewhere with carefully labeled divisions

You sound really organised, I am sure you will be fine. We bought fireworks for the first night in our new 'forever' house. We had a takeaway, booze and fireworks and just enjoyed our new house and ignored all the mountain of unpacked boxes

We do have a nice filing system which will be updated every month. I'm giving DH that job. And if he doesn't do it he will face sanctions.

This isn't our 'forever' house, but it will be a lovely home while we grow our family before I go back to FT work, 5-6years methinks.

If it's possible to have some overlap on the houses all the better in my experience. EG, can you get the keys for the new place a few days earlier, or keep the old place a little longer, takes the pressure off.
