What do you use to clean grimy kitchen cupboard doors?

So due to being 8 months pregnant and already having 2 preschoolers (excuses excuses!) my lainate (?) kitchen cupboard doors are embarressingly filthy, with that greasy grimy kind of dirt you get in a kitchen. My normal cleaner Ecover multipurpose doesn't come close to cleaning them, but, surprisingly, neiter does Cillit Bang. So far I cleaned one with hot water, washing up liquid, and a nylon scritcher, which did work but was a lot of elbow grease!

Does anyone have a secret for how to get them clean? I'd love a product which would just dissolve the grease - which is what I thought Cillit Bang would do... any reccomendations?

Smear washing up liquid all over the door - leave for 10 mins. Rinse off with hot water

What about Jif / Cif that's got little granules in it which might do the job.
Worth looking at the Lakeland Plastics website they have some interesting cleaning products.

Soda crystals in hot water or if you dare Sugar soap ( but try small area first)

Think I have some soda crystals somewhere - does that dissolve grease then?

I bought some fab stuff from Asda called 'Elbow grease' it was only a quid and its the best degreaser I've ever used.

SandStorm · 06/07/2012 13:42

baby wipes?

AMumInScotland · 06/07/2012 13:42

Flash Orange - great for cutting through grease. Still needs a bit of elbow-grease though!

BeehavingBaby · 06/07/2012 13:44

Weak bleach solution and a microfibre cloth is what I use, but I would do that after Cif or other 'cream cleaner' if grease had built up.

spicandspan · 06/07/2012 13:44

ooh Asda is my nearest supermarket, will definatly take a look!
This looks good on the Lakeland website as well: www.lakeland.co.uk/23106/HG-Grease-Away
But obviously if the £1 one from Asda works as well, that's a few pennies saved...

It wasn't in the cleaning section it was in the one pound bit on the end of an aisle.

i second soda crystals.
I dissolve about a couple of tea spoons in a bowl, and with a J-cloth, wipe the whole kitchen down. degreases really well and is really quick.
make sure you wear rubber gloves.

nomorecake · 06/07/2012 15:57

if really stubborn grease, i use a scrubbing brush with the solution.

Well I tried the soda crystals, they worked really well compared to chilling bang / washing up liquid, so thanks for that! Only done half the kitchen tho, mustering energy to finish the rest...
