How do I get my washing to smell like its been washed?!

Often I'll walk past someone in the street who smells of freshly washed clothes, and I love it! I use detergent (usually Ariel liquitabs), softener up to the level in the drawer and line dry where possible, but my laundry still just smells ordinarily clean. I do wash full loads, could this be the issue? Do people who have super fresh laundry do tiny loads and use loads of washing powder?! Any tips for super smelling products, or different methods gratefully received, I want that fresh laundry smell!

Line-drying never makes my laundry smell particularly nice. It just smells of nothing when I bring it in. I've never got what the fuss was all about.

smelling of nothing is good! it means no stale, musty smell, no resident mould! You can use a scented ironing water if you want.

Some people put their used-up perfume bottles in the knicker underwear or bed-linen drawer, enough seeps out to scent the fabric.

Line-drying makes my laundry smell of acid rain. Must be the London air.

I do it anyway though (well not this year so far, thanks to the crap weather) and use cedar blocks in my wardrobe.

I think line drying can make washing smell nice if there are flowers nearby

Line drying makes mine really fresh like sea air, although the effect doesn't last long. That is the only smell I want on my clothes, fresh air.
