Getting smokey smell out of dry clean clothing

Hello! I've just bought a really nice smart wool/silk mix dress on EBay - immaculately clean, beautifully parcelled up, but reeks of smoke.
It is dry clean only but I'm not comvinced dry cleaning will get the smell out (am never too clear exactly how dry cleaning works). Can anyone recommend a good way to detoxify it please? (have been airing it in the garden all day but that's made no difference). Thanks!!

Dry cleaning will get the smoke out, I've worked in pubs for years and my suits used to stink.

Dry cleaning is a liquid solution in a washing machine in simple terms as thats as much as I understand!.

When I wasn't dry cleaning I used to hang them up and steam them with the iron. I put some of that fragranced ironing water in and just squirted steam all over them. Then hung them out if possible or just up in an open room untill they dried.

if you have a washing line, put them out on a dry day.

Hanging over a steamy bath will help, so will hanging in an airing cupboard (but take the clean stuff out first)

Hello both! Thank you for your advice - I will get it dry cleaned!

Febreze spray!

I bought a handbag on eBay that similarly reeked of smoke, and a few squirts in the lining soon sorted it out.

Hello Rooble,

Sad for me to do this I know, but this should clear up your curiosity.

:)
