Canisters for tea coffee etc - good or bad ??

foofooyeah · 26/06/2012 13:23

I have always kept my tea coffee sugar etc in their original containers in the cupboard but space in the cupboard is limited, sugar gets everywhere etc.

So are canister things ok or are the considered a bit naff ?

Could do with more than one for tea ie: for ordinary tea and green tea.

Views on this and any recommendations please.

Kitchem is cream with brushed steel toaster etc, but thinking of injecting a bit of colour such as red as its a bit bland.

I've recently started using some glass canisters with flip up lids, kilner sort of things - partly because I've been buying coffee in those bags so needed something to put it in. I think they're ok.

I've got clear glass jars with cork lids. I'm not too keen on labelled canisters, i.e. tea/coffee. All my dry foods etc are in clear jars so they are easy to see. I think this looks more natural in the kitchen.

I always put teabags into a caddy because it helps keep in the flavour. I keep instant coffee in its original jar because it is tightly sealed. I don't like keeping foods like flour and sugar just in their bags because of the risk of spillage/leakage and flour weevils, so I always decant them into plastic lock and lock containers.

I use glass jars like kilner jars but cheaper for most things, but inside the cupboard because apparently there's no reason to have anything out on the surfaces. I keep instant coffee in it's original jar because I CBA'd

I have these in my kitchen. I use them for tea, coffee and sugar - but they're not labelled so you could use them for anything & have as many as you need.

Canisters - a bit naff Shock. Am I missing something?

Have always used them, didn't think there was another option. Wouldn't want to have to delve in the cupboard, root through the teabag box, sugar bag and then onto the fridge for the milk.

However, completely agree with the coffee in its original jar, it goes rank in a pot. Just keep the jar next to the tea and sugar caddys.

Stainless steel caddies here. 2 for tea, one for sugar and a jar of coffee stuffed at the back of the cupboard for guests.

I hate those with Tea/coffee/sugar on them. I use a tea tin (yorkshire tea tin from my beloved late nan's house) and leave coffee in the jar or tin, & I have sugar in an airtight canister.

They are never on display. Clutter.

I have cannisters for our basic tea, coffee and sugar. DH works from home and so do I sometimes so we seem to get through a lot. They are just plain stainless steel with stainless steel lids and labels. DH bought them before I met him (so 10 years ago or so), and they are one of just a handful of items that was kept from that era. Previous to this I didn't drink much tea/coffee and sugar was only for guests so it was all kept in the cupboards. I much prefer them to the clutter and annoyance that would be caused my DH leaving out things that should be kept in the cupboard several times a day!

Glass jars with blackboard paint on front.... write on this bit with chalk
Stainless lids
Think they came from Matalan
But not on worktop hidden inside cupboard.....

but would get a threesome of cannisters if I could source some original 70s ones.
