Ikea bed linen sizes.

We have an Ikea double bed - possibly a king size. When we bought it, DP said that he had heard that their sizes were a little different to everyone else and we would henceforth only be able to use Ikea bedding.

It has since occurred to me that DP often doesn't know what he is talking about... Does anyone know if bog standard bedding from tesco/dunelm mill/wherever will fit an Ikea bed and duvet?

they are different sizes in Ikea

we have an ikea king size bed so bought sheets there, then got a super king sized duvet and buy covers anywhere (well anywhere that sells them, which isn't as many places as sell bedding as SK size isn't that common!). Having a bigger duvet means less fighting for bedding in the night.

I'm afraid he's right on this occasion, I suppose you could try a slightly bigger size or you might just have to invest in a new duvet. I know it's soooo annoying Angry but on the other hand they do have done ice bedding sets Wink

'they do have some nice bedding sets' stupid phone Grin

Oh bugger Sad I hate it when he is right Grin

I like the sets there, but our nearest ikea is Warrington and we are in north Wales, and I'm not sure if they deliver? When we had a book case delivers by them it was such a faff - they only deliver to our area onfridays and between x and x time. I can't be bothered with it just for bed linen... Although they would probably just use royal mail for something so small?

have you looked on eBay? there's a seller who lives near our Ikea store who sells loads on eBay, much more reasonable postage than getting ikea to deliver

your dh is sort of right.
the beds are continental sizes, so 140x200, 160x200 or 180x200.
so for sheets you need to look for these sizes, but even big department (john lewis comes to mind) stores sometimes have a good selection.

MousyMouse · 25/06/2012 10:21

the rest of the bedding shouldn't be a problem, though, just the sheets.

TwllBach · 25/06/2012 10:42

That is a really good point Mousy I'm pretty sure that my DM bought us the duvet and it isn't Ikea. How silly of me!

Yeah, ikea work on European linen sizes. It's a pain in the ass and for that reason alone I would never buy an ikea bed again.

I suppose it is only the fitted sheets that you need (ie. regular duvets are okay) but I've found that even their fitted sheets are expensive, for Ikea, and don't fit that great. I've also tried a La Redoute fitted sheet (European sizes) and it was also piss poor.

Our spare bed is an Ikea bed, but I just use bog standard king sized bedding on it. The bed is slightly narrower than a normal king size, but the same length.

Here's a UK bed and bedding size chart which may help you decide what UK sizes you need to get to fit on your Ikea mattrerss

If your bed is ikeaand it's only sheets you need, try flat rather than fitted? Next, John Lewis etc do quite a range of plain colours I think.

I find TK Maxx really good for good quality sheets that will fit our Ikea bed.
European sizes, and much nicer than Tesco etc but for the same price.
