How do I un-stink it? Already done a maintenance wash which reduced the smell a bit, but it's still there lingering.

Did you do the maintenance wash with bio powder on a really hot wash?

Gettheetoanunnery · 22/06/2012 17:15

Erm just my normal powder at 90 degrees

Do you use liquid/liquitabs? They can cause slime to build up in the door seal. A quick wipe should clear it.

Gettheetoanunnery · 22/06/2012 17:17

Just checked, it is biological.
Does that make a difference?

Do you keep the door open when not in use?

RecursiveMoon · 22/06/2012 17:18

Maintenance wash
HG service wash (an in wash powder, Lakeland sells it)
Clean powder drawer
Clean seal (get seal replaced like I did today Blush)
Include something like Napisan for a couple of washes

JennyPiccolo · 22/06/2012 17:18

Yeah it's better at cleaning the gunk. Tesco do a powder that's specifically for cleaning the machine, you could try that? Also leave the door open, it does help the smell go away.

Bossybritches22 · 22/06/2012 17:19

Spoonful of bicarb in the drum then hot wash, first take drawer out +give it a good wash + the aperture.

CookieRookie · 22/06/2012 17:20

Same here. I've cleaned the filter, the rubber ring and done a hot wash, nothing works! Will watch this thread with interest.

Could you put baking soda solution into it? I use it for my bins instead of bleach and it works a treat.

Gettheetoanunnery · 22/06/2012 17:26

Yep I keep the door open.
Admittedly the draw is looking a bit mucky Blush so will give that a wash now and wipe round the seal.

What's this magical baking soda solution you speak of cookierookie?!

Have you cleaned the filter? and the doors seal? And the powder drawer? All of these can be disgusting.

Gettheetoanunnery · 22/06/2012 17:37

Where is the filter normally located?

At the front, it looks like a cover of some sort....just a circle of washing machine coloured metal/plastic. It comes of and conceals hidden yeuch.

try googling the machine to get its manual.

PigletJohn · 22/06/2012 17:50

the filter is most often behind the kickplate at the bottom of the front. It will be described in the instruction book.

When you do a service wash, the old soapy sludge will wash away in plain hot water with no powder required. If the water turns grey and foams up, you will know it is caused by the old soap dissolving. Do it again until the water stays clear.

You can add a cup of washing soda if you want, it probably speeds up dissolving of the sludge. Don't mix with bleach or vinegar or other chemicals as they will neutralise each other.

CookieRookie · 22/06/2012 17:58

I've never made a solution with it just thought it would be better in a liquid form for the washing machine. I started using it when the bin was retaining a nasty odor even after washing. Just sprinkling a little in the bottom of the bin once a week keeps all the smells away. It's also great for toilets.

Can't believe I never thought of using it in the machine before now. I'm going to try it. Will report back tomorrow.
