What do you keep the recycling in before you take it out to the bin/box?

I rinse tins and bottles and chuck in a small plastic basket behind the sink. It fills up quick and looks a mess.

Any ideas?

Straight into the recycling box here. No intermediate storage.

Ktay · 21/06/2012 18:48

Not sure it's any smarter than your plastic basket but we use a jute bag by the back door. I try and empty it daily but in practice it can hold a couple of days' recycling

I have a 2 compartment bin so one side is recycling and one side is general waste. When either side gets full I take it out to the wheelie bin.

This is my bin

RillaBlythe · 21/06/2012 19:08

Jute bag by the back door too. Wanted a double compartment bin but wouldn't fit under the sink which is the only place for it.

Same as MrsJohnDeere

Hello

We have something similar to this which cost £20 from Ebay about 4 years ago. We use one side for normal waste and the other for recycling.

I saw some similar ines in Ikea the other day but can't find them on their website. They had two different styles, 2 and 3 sections.

I hope this helps

oreocrumbs · 21/06/2012 19:15

I have a recycling bin from ikea, its a bit like those dirty laundry bins that have 3 cloth compartments one for whites/darks/colours. Its plastic and has a lid. I empty it every few days.

bigkidsdidit · 21/06/2012 19:18

I keep the recycling bins in the utility room and throw them straight in

mumat39 · 21/06/2012 19:18

sorry. that should say similar ones. Thought I should correct myself before you start looking for an item called ines Wink

I have a narrow bin with a green lid, next to the rubbish bin in the kitchen. It gets filled up quickly though, so dh and the children will balance bits on the lid rather than take it out to the recycling wheelie bin.
We actually had a competition one day to see how tall we could get the tower.(more the fact I was not going to empty the blasted thing if no one else was.)

Emandlu · 21/06/2012 19:22

We have a set of stacking boxes from IKEA that have an angled corner so that you can still put stuff in without unstacking them.

craftynclothy · 21/06/2012 19:22

We have a kitchen bin for black bin rubbish and a slightly smaller one for the recycling.

TimeWasting · 21/06/2012 20:46

We not long since bought a new bin, wish I'd thought about the twin compartment ones, dash it!
We don't seperate recycling here, tins, glass, cardboard all go in the same boxes, so don't really need those stacking ones, good if we did though.

I have a big old fashioned metal dustbin with kid from idea. Had it lying around in garage so I keep that next to my normal bin in the laundry and then empty every few days.

ceeveebee · 21/06/2012 20:56

Straight into the recycling here too, we keep recycling boxes outside the back door and about 3 feet from the kitchen sink

justtryingtodomybest · 21/06/2012 21:04

We have these and keep them in the cupboard under the stairs. The paper one gets emptied whenever the bin is due to go out. The glass one gets taken to a recycling centre whenever my DH has filled it with empty beer bottles.

Plastic kitchen bin without a lid, in the dining room, lined with an orange recycling bag. All recycling goes in it, and the bag then goes onto the porch when full - we fill 2-3 a week. I have a typical compost caddy on the draining board for compostable food waste.

My parents have just got a new kitchen and on one side of their island they have 3 bins, for rubbish and two types of recycling. Looks fantastic!

comewwhinewithme · 21/06/2012 21:15

Huge bag for life hung up in the pantry.

Milliways · 21/06/2012 21:20

Ours kept in "piles" in the kitchen until it goes out - daily if possible, but we have been provided with:

  1. A food caddy (kept under kitchen sink) - with compostible liners that when full go in the -
  2. A green wheelie bin for garden and food compost
  3. Box for Glass
  4. Box for paper & card
  5. Bag for tins & plastic bottles
They also collect rags/clothes with all the above!
JuicyOrange · 21/06/2012 22:46

We have one of these

shineypenny · 21/06/2012 22:49

Most of it straight in recycling crates outside.
Paper and cardboard kept in a cardboard box in the house.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 21/06/2012 22:51

One of those big round flexi tubs with handles. Have tried just about every other receptacle and it still all spills out over the kitchen floor. Could empty it more often I suppose...
