Boring question - sink won't drain

Water is pooling in the bathroom sink and takes ages to drain away.

Should I put bleach down or unscrew the pipes underneath the sink?

It's probably hair clogging it. I am not sure bleach will do anything, undoing the pipes is the best way to find out. Just don't forget the bucket and gloves!

If it's hair buy some hair removal cream and put it down the sunk - it should dissolve it.

I use a bathroom sink unblocker gel thing from the supermarket when the water takes a while to drain. Soda crystals can also help unclog sinks

Sink de-blocker does work. Unless you've somehow managed to get a knife to fall down the plug hole.

Soda crystals!

just take off the u-bend. my DH didn't do this for days and days and days as it was some huge deal. it took 10 mins. just get a bowel and some towels, unscrew it, empty, put it back on. Only problem would be if the u-bend is fully encased in pedestal but don't think normally are?

If it's a plastic trap, you can easily unscrew it by hand. Put a bucket under first. You don't need a man. Rubber gloves will help you grip and turn the plastic ring to unscrew it. Pedestals are usually designed so you can get to the trap.

If you haven't already used a sink plunger, do that first. If you need to buy one, buy a sink pump instead. Remember to have your assistant press a damp sponge tightly against the overflow while you pump.

Bleach doesn't clear blockages it just makes them smell nice and kills germs. Once a week I use old fashioned washing soda crystals (at any supermarket next to the cleaning stuff in a small plastic bag). They cost less than a pound and last for months. Pour a pile into the plughole and pour on boiling water. This clears all the fatty/greasy deposits. You have to do it weekly though. And use a plunger to pump over the plughole. You have to cover up the overflow opening first or no vacuum will be created.

I use plug hole unblocker liquid - it is hair with us in the bathroom
