We have some issues with our home and garden that we're not sure how to cure, any tips or advice are very welcome!*

  1. Our bathroom is old and disgusting and we can't afford to have a new one fitted. The main problem is that there's mould between the tiles and around the bath. It's black and stubborn and scrubbing at it just dulls it a bit or tears the sealant. How can I get rid of it for good?

  2. We currently have a shower curtain but I hate them and would like a screen fitted. DH doesn't want one because he says they get smeary and look horrid. From past experience I have to agree in principal but I'm sure that's because we weren't cleaning it 'right' (we used household cleaners that claim to leave it 'streak free' and in fact just left it looking smudgey). So how do you keep them looking lovely? We're in a hard water area.

  3. We have a washer/tumble dryer. When the clothes have been tumbled, despite them having been washed with lovely smelling fabric conditioner, they come out smelling of biscuits. Honestly. This isn't a fault with the machine because the last one (different make and model) caused exactly the same pong. Is there something we can add in there to make tumbled stuff smell as lovely as non-tumbled?

  4. This is a weird one but we're clueless - we're on a corner plot surrounded by trees which shed their leaves endlessly all year round. Would a leaf blower work on grass?

Thanks in advance if you can help with any of the above.

*Disclaimer: I do realise I probably sound like a moron Blush

Yes, trees do shed leaves. You need to get out and rake them up:)

Why use fabric conditioner? waste of money IMO . More likely to cause skin reactions.

Don't have a shower screen or curtains- we just make sure we don't splash water around- yes we are weird. But I think a screen would be easy to clean aslong as you do it after every shower.

Black stains on grouting and sealant round bath- nothing works. You need to regrout or take off old sealant and apply new.

  1. I'd get a bleach based mould remover for the bathroom.
  1. Apparently, if you clean a shower screen with car wax occasionally, the water forms droplets and runs down the glass without leaving streaks (Would appreciate any back up for this as have yet to try...)
  1. Not sure, but probably as Give the A has answered
  1. Yes, a leaf blower works on grass. Do you have a mower? Then you could mow the grass and leaves in one go...

What they said, and to add the best thing I have found for keeping the shower screen clean is to keep a squeegie in the shower and give the tiles and the screen a quick wipe over before you get out. It stops the water leaving those god awful marks and takes the soapscum off too.

You have the tumble drier on too high and too long. You can buy bounce sheets that you put in the TD and it gives it a fabric conditioner smell, but if you put a shorter cycle on a cooler temp you won't get biscuits!

How did I get itallics? I was aiming for arrows Confused.

Useless bloody tachnology, what was wrong with pen, ink, and carrier pidgeon?

FeakAndWeeble · 17/06/2012 20:38

We don't have a cycle time on our tumbler! Bum. But - you can set the temperature, so we'll lower this and we'll get the bounce sheets.

Thank you people!!
